hey guys,

just for interest sake i was wondering what boost and power gains can the STOCK ca18det and sr20det handle, how much can you up the boost on the stock engines until things start breaking and what kind of power will the stock engines handle?

and also how much power will the ca18det handle, until you have to replace gearboxes ect, is 250kw reasonable?

any help will be much appreciated.

thanks for the quick replies guys,

aep886 im guessing thats for the sr?

and if i increased boost on the CA to 0.8 and did the necessary mapping do you think 200hp to 220hp ish is reasonable or too much, what boost will make 200 - 220 hp?

you guys are probably thinking this is really minor but is only temporary, in the future ill give it a good rebuild.

if i remember correctly the OEM T25 max out around 0.8bar... but you can really push it till 1,1 bar on the CA18, remember your stage 1 supporting mod before you do it... filter and exhuast~

I couldnt boost my CA18 past 0.8 bar, got some type of boost cut when i did that.

it the ECU doing that... because your SMIC soaked with heat in no time... your exhaust also too small...get stage 1 upgrade, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump and intercooler then you can see your boost go up ^^

1.1bar on a t25 is not going to last long

If you have a stck setup, meaning, stock turbo, stock injectors and so on, 0.9 is the maximum realiable boost.

if you have an upgraded turbo, upgraded injectors and the rest, a stock CA18DET will take around 1.3-1.5 bar boost if the fuelling and timing and so forth is right, it is said that the stock internals can handel around 500HP...although most of us have the opinion that 350WHP is close to maximum.

350bhp on a CA and about 400bhp on a SR with stock internals if mapped correctly.

The boost level is irrelevant as the setup dictates how much power you get.

Different mods amount to different results but if you are looking for the limits on the engines themselves the above is good to go by but at those powers your gearboxes won't last too long.

thanks guys,

that answers my question, for now ill do stage 1 mods, exhaust, intake and a stand alone system, get it mapped properly and hope for 300hp..

i heard that nistune is quite good? what do you guys think?

Nistune is excellent and my first choice.

What engine are you running? 300BHP is pretty easy to get without too much on a SR but a fair bit more work is required for a CA (Stage 2/3)

nistune is the only site that i know of that really gives you alot of the detailed aspects of tuning. ive learned alot about tuning a car from that site and all the 'how tos' that they have, as most guys teach themselves anyway.

im running the CA, ok maybe not 300...250 maybe? aslong as i can beat a mk5 gti and the occasional ST i will be satisfied. for now...

250 is fairly achievable

Look here to give you a rough idea of what is required for each stage and how much you can expect:
