Good day Guys.
I am new to the forum and have bought myself a 200sx in total stock form about 2 days ago. Its not my 1st time running a Nissan.
The previous buyer could not tell me when last the car has had a cambelt change. He claimed the car had a service about 5000k's ago but i do not trust him.
When should the boost start coming in? The car feels a bit lazy at below 3000 revs and the turbo starts to spool at about +-3500, at 4500 it gains momentum and at 5000 it gets exciting to 7000 rpm.
What im wondering is it possible that the cam belt is really old and stretched thus causing later boost and possible damage to the engine should it snap?
I am also wondering if the prev owner had not maybe installed a larger replacement turbo( everything looks 100% stock in the engine bay), When i bought the car i saw some grey/whiteish smoke coming from the exhaust, it smelled very rich and definitely not sweet as coolant would when it enters the combustion.
Your help would be very much appreciated, due to my lack of knowledge i do not want to take any chances.

Hi Guys thanks for the replies
I forgot to mention its the S13, with the Ca18Det
At what revs does the turbo spool up? is my Rpm's consistent to other standard S13's?
I will have a look at the fuel pressure at idle and under load to confirm if i might need a better fuel pump since the car is stock to my knowledge i might only get one at a later stage
I'm busy giving the car a good clean where after ill post some pics

If it's only hitting full boost at 5K then there is a leak somewhere or you have a bigger turbo in place, and if there are no supporting mods for it I'd be worried.
And get a new cambelt in place ASAP for piece of mind...you will kill your engine if it snaps.

I'm from Centurion, Pta
i am kinda worried for the late boost! I will take the car to a friends house for a decent inspection on a lift and to do the cam belt this weekend.. I'm really stressed about this..rather change the +-R150 part than to sit with a R6500 new engine bill.
The lag seemed a bit hectic to me as well, i used the road in front of my house which is a uphill to test it in 1st gear only after about 100meters the boost came in.
With regards to the Turbo.. There is so many "mechanics" out there who work on cars and whom changes parts without having the proper knowledge/respect for the cars they work on. I am really starting to lean to the idea that it has another turbo/blades in it...When the boost kicks in fully its got a very healthy surge

Like u said djtreble if there's no supporting mods it would lean out and could cause the engine to fail.
Overall the car seems fine but i am going to have a look at that turbo to make sure its not using oil. Ill have a look again later and keep post the results

I think you've got a failing fuel pump. If you and your buddy don't come right, talk to me.

If someone could also point me in the right direction to fix the body. Overall it is in a very good nick. But it does have its little scratches ans.
My biggest problem is on the tail gate (boot) where it has a little bit of rust underneath the wing. I removed the wing and sanded away the rust. Its definitely repairable and not worth buying a new one. Fixing is allot more fun in anyway.
Who could i use/how/what could i fix the original boot spoiler, its just to empty without it?
Ill see if i could load some pics tomorrow so that u could all see the cab
