i've heard it said that the ca18det can rev to 7 grand standard.
the rev limiter is at 7200/7400 rpm AFAIK!
i often go past 6500 rpm without hassles, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Till where my power drops off... Torque drops off at 5500rpm, Power drops off at 6000rpm
No need going beyond that, but yeah the CA loves being revved, unlike tin can brother the SR, which needs rocker stoppers

I usually change at 6000rpm but when I went to 7000rpm the car pulls like hell.

Its about
7200 RPM in first
And then I get about 7400 RPM before the limiter in the other gears

I paid very close attention to sound of the motor and it sounded sweet all the way through. I was in 4th so I could hear it clearly with out the noise of the motor.
I think ill change at 6000rpm to be safe.

Rev it till you hear a clattery noise from the engine take note of rpm never go there again

.
It pointless changing at 6 if yr max power is there as you will be dropping off your torque curve in the next gear.
Thats the reason u say the car went better when u revved it till 7.
AS for Sr20's I have had them at 9k allready without anyhassles.

I know a guy with a CA18DET and bolt on mods, he sends it to 8000rpm every gear and the motor sounds like it loves it.

and the story about the SR's floating valves at high rpm??? is that a sales pitch to move those SR rocker arm plate thingy's, or does it really happen???
the reason i ask is that i've read plenty that you need to buy those things!

I know if you change the CA18 to solid rocker lifters it makes a HUGE difference. There is an SX down here that revs to 9000rpm in every gear no problem.

hey gary,
i've been wondering about this for a long time, but never ask the question.
what does the conversion entail, and do you know a general cost???

I have never done one, but that guy imported it as "a kit". It makes a bit differnce, I drove that car before I bought mine and it just revs and revs and revs.
