Purchasing a 2JZ-GTE
howsit guys... been readin the forums for quite some time and recently decided to sign up for some advice...
Im in the process of purchasing a 2JZ GTE supra motor. Ill then rebuild back to stock before i swap it into anything. Best price so far is R12500 for complete motor with turbos... (non-VVTi i think)
With regards to a rebuild im hoping the motor will be in good nick so Ill do only the following (titanmotorsports in the USA):
1. Master rebuild Engine Gasket/Rebuild Kit $410
2. Oil pump $191.00
3. Water pump $149.99
4. Anything else I should replace while im at it?
Is it possible to get the above parts new in SA and from where? Im not too keen on purchasing from the states as freight is going to naai me!
Im budgeting on 70K for the swap including engine / rebuild / install. Ill either put the engine into an E36 beemer or 200SX, not sure yet.
Any suggestions/comments/help???

Toyota can get if you got the part numbers. Donnie (RBSX) is selling a 200sx with a 2jz in. Save you the work of doing it.
no disrespect to anyone here but id prefer to do the project myself from the ground up. if the motor goes 'pop' ive only got myself to blame!

In my opinion its definitely not a waste of time. Having the fastest car is not my goal. Above all I want reliability and drive-ability.ads wrote:waste of time!
for that money you can get a sr20 put a nice turbo and some other goodies and the car will be faster then a stock 2jz.
Once im used to the power and rear wheel drive layout ill have the opportunity to increase the power if i choose to. And from my research a 2JZ can output some decent figures with minimal mods.
Its not bragging rights im after...

So for a 'fresh' engine ill be doing the following:
1. Master Engine Gasket/Rebuild Kit (all gaskets top and bottom end) $410
2. Water Pump: $149.99
3. Oil Pump: $191.00
4. Piston rings: $212.00
5. Timing belt : $29.00
6. Timing belt Idle Pully Tensioner: $70
7. Bearing Kit (crank and rod): $230
8. Valve Stem Seal Replacement Kit OEM Parts: $177.00
9. Ferrea Valve Guide Set: $102.24
Total: $1161.23 US.
Hopefully toyota SA can help me out with these parts for around R10K...
Seems like you have a good list now.
But there is more. Get friendly with a mchine shop. Get the block and head checked: bores, straightness, crank journals, cam lobes, head warping and crack testing, cam journals, crank float, cam float.
It can be expensive but so worth it knowing you have a good engine. Check the crank and that before buying bearings as you may need to go oversize after getting the crank ground/polished.
I pressume the 2JZ uses thrust washers/bearings for the crank too, so you will need to get some. Don't forget to install them when building the engine up as it's common to forget these and it will kill an engine quickly.
Good luck and keep us up to date with photo's. I love seeing an engine being built. I especially like clean metal

will do... just going to cost a little more now than i initially thought...

it never ceases to amaze me how someone will always make a comment like this, just because someone is using his imagination..waste of time!

Most import motors are in a good condition, If u get a std engine, and almost always out of a auto car, chances of it being abused are very slim. Why rebuild a motor that might be as good as new? I have bought a lot of import motors, and not one was in need of a rebuild. Just my 2c

R32 GTR
