s13 Radiator fan help

Hey guys,
Had a bit of a problem this weekend, On friday my fan/alternator belt snapped, managed to get home before the temp got close to the high temp zone..

I replaced the belt pretty easily but now I have this problem that the fan is totally locked to the shaft, meaning when I accelerate that bad boy sounds like a world war 2 spit fire fighter plane..
It also seriously sucking power away from the engine coz of the rev's that fan spins to..
temp stays at half & below so that end is fine but I am wondering is the fan is shot & need a new one.. not too sure how to go forth from here

can ya point me in the right direction ??
Will it work on its own, eg. switch on & off still using the normal switch it has

What you need to do is just find an electric fan off another car that is sort of the same size as the radiator. Then make some form of brackets up.

You will need to run the wires into the cockpit and wire it to your own switch, or get a temp sesnsor to put in your rad hoses so that it can autmatically turn on at a certain temprature. (look at autostyle for this)

It works on a heat activated clutch. Sorry if that is not what you are asking.

E46 Radiator fan is what you need.

No the fan isn't "locked" to the shaft. It spins freely and it's spinning speed is limited by the blades turning through the air (resistance). Basically there is a slight resistance between the shaft and fan so that when the engine turns the fan does too, but not at the same speed.

The way you can see this is you can stop the fan while the engine is running (not recommended)
