Hydraulic lifters

Hi 1 and all
I have just replaced all 16 hydraulic lifters, they were in containers with oil , so I just put them in "sommer net so". They were completely pap.
The car started and ran for 5 seconds ( 4 of the exhaust side lifters were left in place ,because they were replaced recently) and then understandibly died , because there is no pressure on the lifters. With my Opel we ran the battery down 3 times before it had enough pressure, the SX , I am charging the battery for the 4th time now, and still no joy. It is starting to backfire somewhat now.
Any ideas on a quicker way to get pressure to the lifters ...without stripping them out again ?
Cam timing and all is spot on.

Pull the spark plugs out when you're just spinning the engine over. That will have less load on the battery and allow you to build oil pressure faster.

U should bleed them before fitting in engine.

Seeing that they are in already follow Guy's advice. Did you count the teeth/lobes on the cam belt and did you remove the crank pulley in order to do so?(for the timing that is)

I was also just thinking that I should take the plugs out.
With regards to the timing , I set the crank pulley on it's mark , the cam pulleys on their marks, removed the CAS (marked it's position ) and then removed the belt from the cam pulleys.
Put it all back together again , turned the motor a few times , marks all lined up. I actually removed the cam cover again earlier this morning to re-check and timing marks are all right.

I was sure once i did my timing right as well according to the marks but had my exhaust cam out by one tooth, since then i count the lobes cause looks can be very deceiving regarding this.

Do you have a manual?

Yes , I have a manual. I did the whole job according to the manual. I own a workshop anyway. So I am not a complete idiot.
I mainly do suspension work , so I only fiddle with my own engines, which is why I ask for advice on this forum

well where you looked how to do timing alternative it shows you how to count teeth on the cambelt between the dots on the belt gears so just look should be there

Never meant to suggest that. The thing just is that ive been working on cars and bikes my whole live(my own mostly like you) and the sx's timing still chucked me a curve ball.
