Damn, your subject made me think you had a magic cure

I can't imagine there's any cure other than to replace the noisy lifters, if you can tell which ones are noisy.

thicker oil helped with me but it didn't cure it.
i went from castrol slx 5w-30 to shell helix 10w-40

hydrailic lifters are hard to cure . if its noisy they are for the most part kla. my vg30 has really noisy lifters,i used a combination of diesel oil and a product for noisy lifters. it is still noisy on startup but after a few seconds its gone, well almost but alot more quiet. well thats my solution ,sort of. if all els fails get a loader exhast, youll never hear the lifters hehehheheh

Take them out and service them. If some are stuffed it is esy to spot when you put them back together.

yeah i also used to service mine when i used to be very poor (appy)
it can be done, though it can be tricky.. some lifters are difficult to open and close.. but if you can open it without wrecking it, clean it out and stretch the spring pushing the ballvalve a LITTLE bit.. backyard mechanic i know, but it worked..

ok this is some good info.i have in the parst replaced my vg30 lifters( i have gone through about 7 motors-NOT IN ONE BACKIE)with "pirate"ones that were cheap, and it only lasted a few weeks and i got the lifter noise again and they were replaced by a "tuner" there was only one brand 'pirate' lifters thatr worked BUT they cost around R145 each and that was about 2 years ago, so be carefull about the cheap lifters.... i ll get out an old set and see if i can backyard it back to life....

the problem is one - where do you get mobil 1... no one ever has...
do these turbo engine like magnatec? i think its a thinner oil 20w50, but it will take away noise even on startup (worked on 2 vw's and a champ i serviced)
noisy lifters on startup apparently is normal...
i have had where if the backbox (exhaust) is changed on a car the lifters stop making a noise - most probably not enough back pressure in the exhaust.

i would not touch magnatec or edge. they are not fully synthetic. castrol slx (5w30 or 5w40 1 liters only) or shell helix ultra (5w40 silver bottle)
