Oil Pressure UP - why?

Overnight early this morning my eye caught the oil pressure gauge reading 1 to 1.5 Bar more than usual. When normal driving hot engine and during idle the ratio is also up. Question - why? What causes this? Do you ppl think it tells me to change oil. I was on my way buying new oil because it is time to do it anyway. But if you agree with this one, then the oil pressure meter tells me more than just oil pressure? Is there anything else we need to know about oil pressure up all of a sudden overnight? What is on its way to break down?

Not sure if the sx has this but the old Alfa's have a bypass valve in the oil pump which they used to control the oil pressure. Now these were prone to getting stuck either closed or open, either high pressure or low pressure and it would never change.
Just a thought

I think you should double check that gauge.
Maybe the gauge is faulty, & over reading.
Check the send unit as well.

there is like a flat face allan head in the oil pump, inside is a spring... don't know if this is that valve?
could some muck have settled overnight in some oil holes blocking them? this would cause the pressure to go up won't it?

Ja that could be it, just check the manual and see.

my 2c:
many ppl increase the oil pressure (in many other cars too) by fiddling with the spring in the pump mentioned by charl. that can control the "rate" of the pump (if thats the right word)!
there is also a little ball in a little hole that is sprung in the oil filter housing. that controls pressure as far as i know, and could have gotten stuck.
and my best is when ppl use "guessometers" because they are more affordable!!! now dont get me wrong, because i also have guessometers, but it could well be that. try to get a different sender of the same brand, to see if the reading changes!!!
so i've repeated what everyone else has said!!!, just dont call me a cockmonkey!!!

Just for interest sake, that is a regulator valve

BTW, if the regulator vavle on a Nissan oilpump get stuck somehow, the oil filter will not be able to handle the pressure and will pop right off! Happened to my previous S14 once! This was on a brand new NISSAN pump!

After a week since, the gauge is now reading anything he wants. Just eratic. I think the gauge and or sender unit is then suspect.
And then it means these Autostyle gauges are rubbish. It will be my second one in 6 months time. First it was Boost gauge now this Oil Pressure Gauge. They look smart and fit the cockpit, but that is all. No good.
Thanks to all.
