Gear Knob

Post by Deens »

Guys, Is there a trick in removing the gear knob on the S13? I tried to twist it off using some good force but it won't budge. The whole lever is starting to twist...I stopped just in case I happen to break something. Anyone??

Is a short shifter actually shorter or does it just reduce the throw but stay the same height??

Gary I was only joking about short shifter, because I dont know the answer. Good question and may be some one else will lighten up the answer.

short shifter - the actual length that you can see is the same, but - what you can't see is the ball and piepietjie that does the actual shifting. The longer the piepietjie, the shorter the top part (where your hand attaches) has to move to get the piepietjie to change the gears beneath. Great mod to have... on my shopping list

i cant describe things on a friday afternoon

With the short shifter the position of the pivot point is raised thus giving you less leverage at the top to make the same travel below the pivot point. In the old Escort 1600 Sport & RS2000 they added a distance piece to achieve this, which gave a very nice feel when changing gears. Windows is quite right, but explained differently.

Yes, it does twist off. I battled but eventually removed it.
