I suppose its run out of gas. I've never actually used it, but the point is i could if i wanted too. But now if i press the AC button the green light doesnt even come on. and it definately doesnt get any colder.
any ideas :?

Edit: run out of gas probably due to a leak.

If your AC has run out of gas it has a leak. The gas is only recycled so never gets used up.

Might have a leak, but because the light not coming on, is something else.
Check the wiring on the aircon unit itself...maybe somethings come loose.

The aircon wont come on if there is no gas.
It has a low pressure and a high pressure switch to prevent the pressure gettuing to high and also to prevent the compressor running without gas which has a special oil dissolved in it to lubricate the compressor.

Yup, get it regassed before you do anything! If you run the compressor without enough gas (and hence lubricant) it can sieze up and you will need a new compressor.

My air-con went recently - the light would come one, but there would be no cold air. Turns out the thermostat or something was gone (it sits behind the glove box somewhere). Nissan would've charged R2500 or so for a new one, but Bosch replaced it with one of theirs for about R250. They seem pretty handy with air-cons so if you're not gonna do it yourself, I recommend taking it there.

I'm about to take my engine out. is there I valve to depresurise the system or something I have to do befor I can take the aircon pipes off?

I suggest not taking the aircon pipes off - I left mine intact. There isn't a need to remove it.

that stuff in there is yucky

go to one of those "refil your aircon" people next to many roads
they have dye that they put in to see where (if) it leaks
then they blow it up and see where the yellow snot comes out
then you go to nissan and pay a gazillion zim dollars for a new rubber pipe

then you sit back and smile
