There has been a lot of stuff flying around on the forum as of late about the CA18DET now me being one of those guys that takes any information with a pinch of salt and tequila ,I have started my own enquires through people I have had the pleasure of talking to around the world.

The Intention of this post is to just display what I have found and allow the club members to make up there own minds but I do want to retract my statement to Gary and say that the stock piston can handle way more then I expected.

I have taken cases from around the world with average guys that own and run CA18DET’s everyday month after month. These are not tuner car yes most of the guys tune there own cars but It doesn’t make them tuners. I am waiting on a few guys to reply to me so I will update when I get those replies.

Also I would like to add at this point that these guys have never had a crank fail on them also I would like to point out something found on Norris Designs website.

They will sell you the “ND350 Conversion” kit this consists of Mongoose Exhaust

K&N Air Filter
ND Boost Upgrade Kit (This kit comprises of an uprated actuator, colder plugs, silicone hose & adjustable turnbuckle)
ND Boost Gauge
Front Mounted Intercooler
ND Super Hybrid T28 Turbo
Sub Zero Tubular Manifold
Gp A Fuel Pump Kit
SARD Fuel Regulator
Apexi Power FC ECU
50mm Air Flow Meter
ND 444cc Injectors (X 4)

To get your CA18DET to around 350 Crank HP (260WK) around 220Wkw.They also only suggest forged pistons when going for the 430HP (320kw) mark

Now Norries Designs is only one company lets take Horsham Developments they also sell the Stage 3 (290-330bhp) kit consisting of:

Free flow air filter
Free flow exhaust
Boost controller to achieve 17psi boost pressure
Uprated intercooler
T28 hybrid turbo
Uprated fuel pump
444cc injectors from a GTiR (SR20DET engine) or Skyline (RB26DETT engine)
Z32 AFM
Super unleaded fuel (>97 RON)

These are two big name companies in the business that clams they can get you car to 200RWkw Everyday one company clams they can take it way past that on the stock crank and rods up to a point.

Its just a little bit of info use it or don’t use it I’m not going to ge into an argument about this

It seems like I was very wrong about the stock pistons righting them off to early, Most of the guys I’m talking to replace the Rods and pistons after 320HP. I can’t imagine a stock bottom’ed CA at those power levels.

Its not all fun a games, I will admit that the one guy with more then 500HP is running 8400Rpm redlines to use the power band most spool just before 5500Rpm and to use the 270 degreeTomei Cams with 10 lift Yummy

I wouldnt take the stock pistons more than 200RwKw but rods I have heard are good for 300RwKw. But RAW say they will bend which goes directly with a few other stories of the rods only good for 230RwKw.

I know Duane (calibrator) had that drag 1400 champ with the CA18 at something close to 400RwKw, forged obviously. Dono what was dont to the crank though.

Three are 4 champ bakkies , Calibrators one then two close to my area in the 11’s then one I JHB I have heard also in the 11’s .

I know the two in my area are running the stock crank and block with chamfered oil holes for the past 2 years at 400 plus power out-puts when I was last there they where converting the one to methanol havnt been there since

P.S they both still use the stock lifters

:-) Nice post, amazing what good managment & tuning and non getto parts can do hey?

Very similar to Enthalpy and Rhombus that have got 600whp out of stock SR20's and people getting 600+whp out of stock RB25's. It happens... for how long? any ones guess, but when they go plan on buying a complete new motor because not much is left

Nice info! Thanks for that Pinkfluffybunnys.

I like hearing of ca18det's making good power. Maybe I just like rooting for the underdog :)

Hmm, so not one of these guys have seen it necessary to change the stock crank.
