One Savage project!!! 56k unfriendly

Hi everyone... It's been ages since I've posted and that's because I've been keeping my little project a secret... I wanted to post this project once it had been completed but I'm too impatient so I might as well give you guys an update on what's been cooking 8) :) .............

It all started with my turbo smoking, which wasn't really that bad yet, then eventually my clutch started slipping... This got to the point where I couldn't even drive more than 60kmph cause of the damn thing so I retired it for a while to "replace the clutch and recon the turbo" which is just a little bit less from what I've done now

The first weekend saw us jacking up the car and prepping everything...

Image

Then we started stripping...

The turbo out with the manifold...

Image

Next we had to take out the gearbox and this was pretty awesome for me, considering I'm only 18 and don't have much hands-on experience. I learnt a lot about how things work and really enjoyed the experience and work...

This thing was extremely dirty when we took it out...

Couldn't have done this without the help of my dad! :D

Image

I couldn't put the dirty box back in again like that so I had to clean it...
It took me about 2 weeks on and off to get the stupid thing clean!
The previous pics were the before pics and here are the after pics...

Spotless!

Some of the other dirt and grime that had to be cleaned...

Image

The worn clutch...

Image
Image

The pressure plate...

Image
Image

The flywheel bolts which were hell to take off!

After the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate had been sent off, it was time to sort out the turbo...
I thought it would be a little more to go with something a little bigger such as the SR20 T28 turbo so we finally found one...

Image
Image

We sent the turbo in for recon only to find they couldn't balance it because the shaft was slightly bent, they reconned it but just didn't balance it...
So after that long story we eventually decided on doing what we originally wanted to do, and that was the T28/T3 turbo from Mr Turbo which seems like it's gonna work really sweetly with my CA 8) ...

Image
Image
Image

We got a spacer too because the compressor housing hits the manifold and can't fit that way as I'm still using the standard manifold...

Image
Image

We thought it would be better to take out the engine as we've gone this far already... Also would be easier to assemble everything outside the engine bay...

Image
Image

Taking off the fuel rail to check the injectors...

Image
Image

Opened the tappet covers too...

Image

The sump was leaking so we turned the engine around and took it off...
We saw iron chips on the oil pickup and on the sides of the block, but most of all found out how finished my rings were... And this meant rebuild... I had exams coming up soon and didn't have the time to do the rebuild myself so we sent it to a reputable tuner to get the block rebuilt and the head done too...

Thanx rat... I've already cleaned the engine bay...

Sokar... Already got the zig zag pipes for the radiator ( just adds to all the shiny bits in the engine bay 8) ) and I photoshoped most of the codes and numbers just in case

Trance... got the radiator at Styling Racing up here in Joburg...

That looks great....I just as exited to see what that turbo does...if it is possible....before putting all the other extras in.....just do the turbo and see what difference it makes from standerd....the compressor housing is a AR42....as far as I know you could have asked for a bit bigger with no charge....
