Hi guys.
1) What are the correct torque settings for the headbolts??
2) Also, since the headbolts are stretch bolts - where should I buy replacements (other than Nissan stealerships)??
3) Lastly, the Payen gasket set GS050 listed in the parts list is suitable for the CA18DE according to the Payen catalogue. Is the head gasket for the DE and DET the same??? Surely the DET should use an uprated head gasket??
Plz help, thx.

I used that one and it works fine. As far as I know the the DE and DET gasket is the same.
Here is the torque settings.

The GS050 gasket is perfect, none of the motors I've used it one ever gave HG problems...

the full FSM can be downloaded here:

as for new headbolts - its nissan or ARP. you make the choice! also - my engineer told me that the Ca18 doesnt use stretchbolts, and that i could re-use mine.
so i did.
and i had no shit!
the SR20 definitely uses them - proof is in the manual. it says measure the length of the bolts, if they are longer than xxxmm then do not reuse them.
hanco - please look in that manual for anything on measuring the length of the bolts. if you cant find anything then i say re-use the bolts! but then again lots of people are calling me a doos lately. use it, dont use it!

my 2c (at the risk of being called a doos) if your budget will stretch to it ,
get ARP's .. never know how many times that head is still going to come off..

I would amen that.
The standard Nissan bolts are good, infact they are not bad at all.
But go read on how the ARP bolts are made. If you know a bit about engineering then you would be amazed.

I would def get the ARP ones if I had the cash, unfortunately that will have to wait till next year when I build the "play" motor.
Thx for the info guys. Will hopefully meet some of u guys soon: I missed Cars in the Park because I stripped the motor that sunday...oh well.

Your welcome to come pick-up head bolts at me, I bought a new set from Nissan only used the for two weeks blew the HG again and replaced with ARP .
The Stock Nissan Bolts are crap, you have been warned they tend to loosen themselves

Tend to loosen themselves??
Please explain. I may be a bit dumb here but stock motors with the bolts from nissan do 200 000kms + and the head stays on.....
*flame suit on*

no need for a flamesuit dude...
i think PFB should back up his statement. i've never had an issue with stock headbolts. i do NOT think they are crap.
PFB - we're you using a standard headgasket when the stock headbolts "loosened" themselves???
