CA18 internals

Hey guys, need some help/info. As you know I'm starting my rebuild soon and would like to know the following (I know this has been discussed elsewhere but can't remember where... )

I'd especially like some input from gary seeing as he's running a strong motor with what I gather to be stock internals!?!?!?

I'm going with the Arias pistons for sure, but have any of you guys upgraded the rods. Something like the ones Mr.Turbo make - they're R3k and come with ARP bolts and rated for 600HP.

How about knife-edging and nitriding the crank? Or shotpeening the std rods?

I remember VC saying something about 150rwkW reliably from stock internals??? That would be sweet...

Once my DET is stripped I'll start comparing the DET and DE bits so we can make a useful thread or sticky for someone to use DE parts to rebuild DET...

If you going Arias pistons then its not stock internals anymore...

Anyway I heard the stock rods are good for 8000rpm and 400hp so I dont think its nessesary to change them.

Yes I know: by stock internals I mean stock crank and rods.

So I'll keep everything std except pistons and then we'll se how goes....

If I had the money (about R14k for parts) I would"ve loved to build the following:

- Arias pistons (this is going in...)
- MrTurbo rods
- ACL Race bearings
- ACL Race Gasket set
- DE cams (this is going in...)
- Vernier pulleys (How's it coming along Gary???)
- Electric water pump
- OEM oil pump
- DE Flywheel (this is going in...)

At least we can still dream...

Acually R7.5k gary :P

And as far as I know (from various internet sources - so accuracy unknown) the DE flywheel is lighter std than DET...

From that list I would drop the fong-kong rods from Mr-Turbo... you don't want any knockoff crap in your engine...

You missed some action over the past year on this forum to what happens when you fit knock-off parts...

Stock rods can handle 450hp, I would rather try source ARP studs, for the rods, crack case, head with the money of the rods...
