Running around on the SR20 forums, Over the past couple of days has brought to my attention a couple of weird things first off the SR guys maybe the ignorant ones seem to keep mentioning how strong there stock bottom ends are how the CA will never match, We first off I don’t think most CA guys are stupid enough to shoot for high figure on the stock bottom end really I don’t know what they are trying to prove other then bragging rights and a constant fear hanging over there head but any way found a couple of CA the have followed suit
Standard 1.8 CA18DET (2 x standard headgasket + over-torqued head), T70 (Garrett T61) @ 1.7 bar, 510cc injectors @ 2.8bar stock bottom end managed 382.8bhp & 326.2lbft @ the hubs on a DynaPack dynamometer that’s 285RWKW and 342 Flywheel KW with a 20% drivetrain loss
So if you into turning your motor into a granade the CA can do it

Well I am at 200RwKw and it is reliable. But seriously I think it is near the limit, the pressure in the cylinders is so huge the HG will blow. I have no doubt the pistons and rods could cope with 250RwKw but not the head gasket.

What injectors are you running Gary?

Stock with staged injectors.
Pink I think you were right when you said;
So if you into turning your motor into a granade the CA can do it
If you going to build a strong motor then do it properly.

Stock with staged injectors.
More detail please, Like is it an injector per a runner? Is it full on at what boost level? What size injector...
Bla bla bla

Its a single injector, 460cc. It is controlled with the Wolf so is not on or off, it varies with the other injectors. It only comes on when in boost though.

Placement of injector?
You also might want to look at an upgrade on those.
Lets add it all together 370 x 4 = 1480 + 460 = 1940 \4 = 485cc
So let’s say you had 4 x 490cc injectors and at 100% duty on all injectors
Injector size: 490 cc/min injectors (46.7 lbs/hour)
Number of injectors: 4
BSFC: 0.60
Duty cycle: 1
This combination will supply fuel for 311 horsepower 231 Engine Kw - 20% drive train loss = 185 RWkW could have been possibly going lean at the end of the run
You could Factor in the water/meth but if you are using it as a fuel and not a Octane booster and combustion cooler that might be chancing things anyway just my 10cents

I have a cast aluminum housing that sits before the TB, this houses the injector and W/M nozzle.
When I pulled the manifold off the last time all the exhaust ports looked the same in colour as well do the plug electrodes so the fuel distribution is perfect.

Something very interesting.....might be wrong but...2 headgasgets....with other words it is like putting in a thicker gasget to get the compression down.....so it might be possible boosting more and so on if you lower the compression with 2 gasgets..... I think with turbo lag the car will be lank powerless before boost comes in.....lower and midrange power will be bad I think.....on top....tha beast....

I wont lie I am really not a fan of secondary injectors unless it’s a staged full pair close the combustion ports a Stock intake manifold with the correct distribution per a port is rare and the CA18DET is not on of them.
I will find the link to a extrude honed manifold with flow charts port three on our cars is the lean one from the charts but not to bad anyway just food for thought.
Why don’t you just upgrade you injectors gary?

I think with the turbo sizing the lag will be there. Its more the hillbilly point of look how much power I can get on stock stuff.
Not the best set-up I have see for a CA18

Why don’t you just upgrade you injectors gary?
(1)He wants to be different.......
(2) He had extra injectors and it was cheaper to fit an extra one...
(3)Hy's net windgat en wil bewys hoe slim is hy....

I've seen worse.... I've seen a corsa turbo where the guy installed a spare rev-counter in his cubbyhole and hooked up his 5th injector to the shift light terminals, so he basically set the shift light where in the rev-range he wanted the 5th injector to start working..........
Since Gary has a wideband and the car running reliably its fine...

Yeah cylinder 3 on any motor is always the bitch. But as I said I have pulled the manifold and checked the ports, all looked good.
Before I had the Zeitronix I used to pull plugs to check AFR. So I would make a change, go for a drive, come back and pull pulgs to check the AFR, yes this a VERY tedeous job but certainly worth the effort. I have got all 4 pretty balanced on the Wolf now. Remember I can richen or lean out certain cylinders with the Wolf.
I would love to change to 4 600cc injectors but right now they wont give me any performance increases so I cant really justify spend R2400 on something that wont give me any benefit. Beside my set up is working real well right now.
When I fitted the staged injector I didnt have the money to buy 4 x 600cc's and couldnt find any decent second hand ones.
