Cheapest way to fix alternator?

My alternator is brokded!
Not sure what exactly is wrong wit it, thought it was the belt, turns out not so.
I'm getting rid of the CA18DET(throwing it in the bin actually) and getting the SR20DET so i'm looking for the cheapest way to get my car to Rustenburg(where the conversion will be done) from Randburg. So is a quick fix on the alternator (replacing/quick-fix), putting in a fresh battery and hoping it lasts till Rustenburg, or putting the car on a tow truck gonna be the cheapest?
I'm not too keen on towing....
Any suggestions?
Thanx
oh and yea, VC, I will be changing my account name before i get the new engine, just for good measure... lol
