And below the carpet is sound damping material stuck onto the body... good luck on removing those... ask anyone that has stripped a car.
But only if you want to remove it

Guys don't let the S13 beat you man.
It's do-able. And everything that's worthy of being done is usually not easy.
Sound deadening material under the carpets is a good idea. The underfelt stuff comes out pretty easily once the carpet is out. At least it did on my car. It's very thick though. At least 3cm I reckon.
Replacing it with sound deadening may not even make the car heavier. If it does it will be marginal.
Gary if you not gonna do it then chuck that sound deadening material my way man. May even buy it

40Kg is nothing, you will barely feel that in the seat of your pants.
DcG sorry it aint for sale I will find somewhere to use it when I get time. I have done the whole boot which worked pretty well, just need to try kill road noise now - firewall and rear arches will prob be the best bet.
