Hey okes,
So my car has got a slight smoke on it! Its def oil, can smell it.
Was reading a artical about breather systems and so on, so I want to increase or improve the breather system on the car, any ideas?
O, and that pvc, pcv valve thingie???? Need some help on that!?
What does it do?
Can I take it out?
Any other pipe work in the car I can chuck out?
PS. I am aware that the smokin might be my turbo, just trying to rule out the other first... If its the turbo, its time for a T28...(MR. Turbo got nice ones!

)
Thanx...........

pvc = positive crankcase ventilation..
this is simply a oneway valve that recycles crankcase pressure back to the engine inlet so the vapours can be burnt with normal intake charge..
oneway, so that boost dont back into the crankcase. can cause all kinds of mayhem if stuck.

Me? :p
I think its this little mofo

on the valve cover, you should be able to blow but not suck through it, or its the other way around, if its either allowing you to blow both ways or not blow either way it could be stuffed.
Maybe one of the other CA owners can shed some light?

It is at the back of the plenum, when the car is idling you should be able to feel a vacuum when you pull the breather pipe of it. If you rev the car the vacuum should disappear then return when you tap off. They dont generally give shit so I doubt that is your issue. Is there any oil in the breather pipes??
Oil catch cans are good and work well but look taty. Just remember that the CA18DET motor has quite a bit of crankcase pressure in stock form which you are not going to get rid of, it is nothing to worry about.

Mario, I am not saying that is your problem but this happend to me, car smoked now and then, erregular on idle, at the end, after rebuilding the engine and turbo, it was still there.....wasted alot of money....it was a reducer washer in my breathing pipes from the tappet covers that caused this, don't know why but as soon as I took it out my smokey days was gone.....
If you go way back in technical I think you should find the thread....

Draco where is this washer exactly. If I over full my engine with oil it spits it out the breather filter untill there is 3.5lt left. Trust me 100ml of oil makes a hell of a mess.
Also is there any easy way to clean the oil return line??

Gary, till today I don't have a clue what that reducer washer is for.....
It is a thick copper washer about 0.5 cm thick with a small hole in the middle....in the breather pipes

Gary I speak under correction but it is in both, I do remember the one on the outlet( exhaust tappet cover side pipes) side breather pipe better....
Gary I just changed the rubber pipe alot that connected the turbo and samp, but I suppose you can use a fire arm cleaning rod to clean the pipes, that is if you are speaking about the turbo return oil line.
