Iv had this before. I stripped my fuse box to check the wires beneath it only to discover a mess of molten wire. Rewired it with new fuse holders for the fuel pump and ECCS fuses.
May be something similiar with yours

I tried everything to seel it, but nothing worked... petrol just eats away any other rubber type sealant, so I opted to seal it... Permanently yeah, worked wonders, my car smelled like a car, not like a golf.

even if you did buy the friggin seal for friggin 130 or sumwhat Rands, you would still have the smell in your car...
Pratley steel is gonna be tough to remove... goodluck...
Fuse could be blowing as daniel said, as a result of short caused, I don't think a faulty pump. Try hooking the fuel pump with a relay and an inline fuse directly between the battery and the pump using a switch. This should also confirm the pump problem before you start smacking the fuel tank with your pimp stick...

The thing is I did go buy a Genuine Nissan seal at R130 odd, but I still smelled fuel...
The funny thing is the fuse only blows when the fuel pump kicks in, and not immediately it runs for 2/3 seconds then the fuse blows. So I don't think its wiring...

Vlade , let us put a ammeter in line there. We check that current. We compare to mine or others and take it from there.

and when you're done doing that, instead of paying 130-00 for the genuine nissan seal, you go to a bearings and seals place (like invicta bearings in strijdompark) and you just get an o-ring maker kit for about 30 bucks a meter.
its a piece of o-ring rubber in whatever thickness you want, you cut it to length and superglue the ends together.
works a charm, just get something bigger than the 5mm o-ring! i would guess that 6 or 7 mm would be perfect!
