Hmmm 249 pounds then then you still gotta get them here, thats over R4k
Gremlin runs Dicktator with aftermarket coils, no issues, maybe chat to him! I'm sure that will be cheaper!

Rather get a set of Bosche coils or hyundai coils cheap like R400 a coil get 2 and your settled... oh yeah and some HT leads

Question though, if we get bosch or hundai coils, will our stock ecu be capable to load the replacement coils. Will the impedance match be ok? If so, great.

And where do we buy bosch coils? Any parts shop? Or bosch serv centre?

BTW, I spoke to the sponsor of gremlin:
www.kwikwap.co.za/gremlin and Gerhard there quote a ball park amount of 2k, coils fitted and supplied. Exactly what was done for gremlin's sx. But keep in mind gremlin runs diktator and Gerhard there said the diktator fires up the replacement coils. They still need to investigate if our stock ecu's can fire those replacement coils?? I dont know??

mmm they just need to give a pulse, not "power" them - i cant see a problem, but hey! i have vaguely heard about someone that thinks that i have been wrong once before!

also try gotech.. they have a aftermarket coil pack for R400 - R600 (all 4 in 1 pack) - if i remember correctly
drop them a mail to find out if the standard ecu can run these.

Ford Fiesta/Focus ST coilpack which drives 4 HT leads are also a good option. I had hunday coil packs on my VE before and they worked fine.

Will aftermarket coils make that much of a difference? one of mine died and only replaced the one. nissan charged like R1200 for it.

For me it is not about the difference. It is about s13 coil packs becoming 17 year old. They don't want to work any more. Why then replace with second hand 17 year old coils? For emergency it is fine. But we now need reliability and easy replacements and easy elimination of faults.

But when the s13 coils work then they work. Even if they are 17 years old. Worse case scenario if it stops working you get a miss, you replace a coil and carry on.
It's not a serious reliability issue like an oil pump or something...

yes and no.
They also behave different when becoming hot. Then you need to find out which one. I just want my elimination to be much easier. Yes, if they work they work. How long and how easy is it to find them?? They close to absolute?? I f i buy your 17 year old coil, when will it pack up?
I don't know??
And by reliability I mean total reliability. The coils are a part of that definition.

So there goes the year of reliability theory
What I did on my car to eliminate the 'bad' coil, was I left the top cover off. Then when the miss started, I just pop the hood and start pulling the coil plugs one by one till I find the culprit.
The Ford ones I mentioned are a very neat replacement.
