What u guys think... just setting myself up for more problems and struggles to find parts?
How old are these engine approx? (They were introduced in the R32 right)
So 92/93 ish - almost as old as the CA18Det
What about a 2JZ/1JZ toyota engine?
Who's running RB25 besides Bruno

What will a RB25 conversion cost, R20k at least?? Put that R20k into the CA18DET and you will have a hell of a monster.

speeder should already have a monster.
with a turbo like that and management - it should all be sorted.
so whats wrong speedy???

what kind of question is that???
OFCOURSE TO RB25!!!!
id have one in a heartbeat if i could afford it
*I have no idea about parts and that sort of stuff...I just want one (sorry)

I here you Gary, I am thinking of an upgrade...but also don't want to cheat on the CA (she's like a hot mother in law)
VC... I have the money to spend at the moment, would it make sense to spend an additional R20k on a CA? The engine is getting a bit old now, so its either a rebuild or replace. The engine gives me
Because for R20k, you can get - pistons(incl rings), gaskets, bearings, rods oil pump, water pump, timing belt and put it all together... Seems harsh!!!
I can get one of those RB25det import motors and RWD gearbox for R11 500.
So I just have to reconfigure the Gotech, maybe get a different exhaust manifold for the T3/T4 and change some piping and hoses for the cooler.
But then, I don't know what's wrong with the RB. So I may have to replace bearings, rings or even pistons oil pump, water pump gaskets.
But then I will also maybe end up at R35k...
That's why I need someone to talk some sense...
Do you think that pumping R20k into a CA should give you a reliable weekend monster for at least 10 years... Considering I only run 0.5 - 0.7 bar boost 99% of the time.
I must sound very confused - so believe that I am a bit

no man, its not confusing...
but you could do lots to a CA with 20k! i mean it could be fully rebuilt with hectic parts for that money!
for 20k you could buy an RB and gearbox and get it mounted, but then you would out of cash - and if it needs new parts then you're screwed cos you wont have any left to rebuild.
thats the issue i've hit with my new SR20det. I'm thinking it needs a rebuild, but i'm not sure i have enough in the budget for it!

aint that the truth... golden rule - take budget x 2, is what you end up spending...
I think I am kind of convinced... to stick with the CA...although RB would be f@@king awesome. Suppose its only because its an RB...

i would say rebulid the ca, ca is very strong motor, 20k you will have a monster and reliable if you do it right.
RB is nice too but 20 will not enough or will not last long, cos you will never know the history of those import engine, and i am sure they will not let you open it just cos you want to buy it.

what he said!!!
20k = not enough for the RB.
20k = enough for a monster CA!
but a monster CA will be nothing compared to a monster RB!

20k, naaaah... my opinion, for a good not so half ass done rb conversion job... more, way more.
One can not even start to configure all the work and extra's that you will need to do and buy. Keep at least a 100K aside for a proper conversion, then you might not even be talking forged....
But then again, damn man, that sound, O that sound. makes grown men cry...

100k???
now thats a bit high for an RB25. i can understand something like that for an 800 horsepower rb26, but not a mild rb25det.
my god with 100k i reckon i could transfer the entire 4wd drivetrain from skyline into an s13 body!!! but then again, my cost estimations are always a little low, because i would do all the work myself!

I'm with you on that one... can ask the guys who have done the conversion it always costs more... You might be lucky in dropping in a RB for 20K and have the reliable and run for years... or the opposite... drop it in run 100km before the rings/bearings go or worse...
If I had 20K to spend on a reliability it can easily be done with the CA, or even SR for that matter, but don't expect performance if reliability is the key.

how do the 3 rules go???
something about performance, reliability, and cost.
cant remember - will go look it up

Not saying that it will cost R100k for an RB conversion and not saying it won't, but I think if you keep on shopping for better and bigger and shinier, the grocery list total will be enormous.
I'd rather then rebuild the CA for reliability with a little bit more punch.
I remember someone saying that its easier to keep a car looking nice than it is too keep it fast. And if you want both you have to be one rich b@st@rd.

"but don't expect performance if reliability is the key"
because a car is fast, doesn't mean you drive it in the red all the time...
