Hi guys,

Just wanna let you all know that I renewed my brake pads today.

I got ATE pads from Midas in Goodwood(cape town) for R265.20

It took me 30min to fit and it works great.

I saved myself a hell of a lot of money today coz nissan charged me R996.50 for the pads without fitment.

I have the part numbers if anyone is interested.

i have only ever used the ATE's. TBH i hate them!
The brake ok but fade VERY quickly. Also they last me 20k wich is what they claim.

Next time il try something else though, but the 'performance' pads like hawk are a bit expensive for me unless they last longer than 20k in which case il take them

Im thinking of going power brake after this. Just standard calipers and drilled and slotted discs with pads.

I did that on the golf and its a huge improvement!! :P

The powerbrake option is a good one. Quite a few of us have those disks here on the forum. However, note that there are different types. Not all of them are slotted and cross-drilled.

Good upgrade and well worth it!!!

drilled = good
slotted = good + lotsa pad wear

I know but this is what I use to do on the golf...buy a set of drilled and slotted discs(coz I know it wears the pads like a bitch) and fit the cheapest pads you can find. That R110 stuff at midas or so.

Then brake like a demon for 3 months and toss the chewed up pads and replace them with cheapies. he he It works.

Plus the ferodo pads get chewed away just as quick on those discs. I had those on for a few months and they cost something like 300 bux.

Sportflow do a drilled & slotted disc and Ferodo FD pad combo for sx's and they claim 20% improvement.

Will be getting them for the sabre.

s13 is getting a 300zx conversion soon. (anyone got a zx master cylinder laying around? :o )

I had ATE on front, didnt last long, put ferodos on front, and have lasted quit a bit longer with alot less fade as well( I went over red traffic lights because of the ATE fade, not such a cool feeling), I have replaced my rears twice (which were ATE) and I still have the same Ferodos up front. But prolly also going Power brake route next.

hey G

i've been down that road a million times man.

i say just try it without the 300zxMC and see what it feels like. if you dont like it then swap.

i've driven nismo's car which has the front 300zx convirgin and its the same damn thing... unless you like to split hari's about it!!!

i dont think the combination of rears and fronts will make a huge difference to the car!

PLUS - those jealous internetgeeks out there might disagree with me. lets await and see...

Hi guys,

I'm new on the forum, just got my sx a week ago. I want to find out about upgrading the brakes.

I got a quote from powerbrake for the "pro street" kit which is R3k for the 280mm kit. Replacement pads are R1k.

But it appears as though my car has the smaller 257mm discs. I guess to upgrade will only require a caliper swop? Does anybody maybe have a set of calipers or know where I can find a set?

Help would be greatly appreciated....
