Considering that the oil return line from a turbo has some pressure, but, mostly relies on gravity to get the oil back in the sump, would it be possible for a oil return line to pop? (or so i have read)
I see my oil return line is a rubber type return, and it either burst, or melted or something, but a lot of oil was "redistributed" to the rest of the engine bay 2 weekends ago.
Luckily the car was stopped when the problem occurred, and after replacing the return, topping up the oil and starting again, everything seems fine.
What would the reason be for this pipe to give up the ghost, or should I rather replace this line with a silicone type of return?
Could too much oil in the engine cause a return line to burst?

Yeah it doesn't have any pressure in it... heat was most likely the cause, on a stock SX that pipe is steel, only about 5cm of the pipe is Rubber and that is where it connects to the sump... If you where running a rubber from close to the tubby it can be that it became brittle form the heat and that is how it broke...
I got a bit longer section as I'm running a T28, but mine has also been fine for more than 4000km

yeah i think so.
remember that these cars are 15 years old, and that pipe is likely to be brittle and hard.
mine was - and i replaced it. first with rubber, but when i put a new turbo on i found a piece of silicone hose with an internal canvas braid.
its working piela!!!
