My old alarm did that. It turns out that there is a relay that must click when you press the remote button, but that relay was tired and didn't want to click no more. So I took the two biggest wires going into the immobiliser circuit and connected them together (after some checking to make sure I wasn't shorting out power or something), and presto! It started. So I made a manual override switch to bypass the immobiliser. Eventually, I got the whole alarm replaced.

my alarm sort off stopped working, the central locking didnt want to work anymore. The car then stood a few months anyway, while the engine got replaced etc.. and when I got it back it was working again, weird.
It happend previously before that when I fiddled under the dash, then just fiddled again and got it to work, probably a loose wire or something.
