Hey all, i have bin contemplating this for a while, but wudn't it be cool to have an engine start button?
Obviously we wud still use the key and ignition, but a button/switch to start.
Also done correctly with all alrams and immobilisers in mind so as not to jeprodise the integral security of the vehicle.
Just a thought, any comments?
Let me know, thanks.

its rather simple, in your ignition switch (where your key goes in) you got at least 4 wires
ground
1st on - initial on
2nd on - engine on
3 starter turn
what you need to do is you splice the starter turn wire (see FSM to see what wire it is) and take that to your starter button, the other point on the button goes to ground (no need to take ground from ignition switch, just ground wire any where on body) and thats it, you got a starter button.
You'll need to turn your key to at least the 2nd on and then press the button to start.

There is an article the Jan issue of Speed & Sound magazine that could be rather helpful to your question.
Personally the S2000 button is better than the Beemer one...

I want a start button with a transponder surgically implanted into my body so the car can recognise who i am with no need for keys at all!!
I was working on something similar actually (carrying a transponder, not having it implanted) but got side tracked. 2 much to do.
And besides i feel in you need to put in the key and turn the ignition on you may as well start it with the key then also.

I agree 100% with you, it does feel to me like that aswell, it seems that you are just adding an extra step to start the car. Having a transponder would be the best idea, but how much you think that would cost.
I even thought about getting a say 4 button remote using one of those to start the car and "relocating and sealing" the ignition but then there is the "acc" function etc....
but the transponder is a good idea that when you get in, the "acc" turns on, radio etc...

You mean like.... a TURBO BOOST button?
And yes, I would miss my S2k start button, but only after 10 seconds while I figure out why the key won't turn

Yup, do you know where I could get one? I would like to use it for switching between low and high boost, it would look a whole lot nicer than the toggle switch.

Did you miss my whole throw-back to the 80's "Knight Rider", or are you just too damn young?
