Ice question.

Post by A|fy »

Wot size speakers can fit in the front doors?
Also does any body know where i mite be able to accquire a new back board, cos the oke who i bought the car off of cut my one up to fit some sh!t 7x10's.
There aren't a lot of 7x10 speakers around, well at least not by many reputable brands, unless some one knows of some? (Preferably not the kenwood ones.)

Thanks, A|fy.

i know people have fitted 6x9's in the front doors, but i really dont like those speakers.

somewhere on the forum you will templates for a cutout that you can use to fit 6" round speakers.

the best would be a set of 6" component speakers, or 6" splits as most people call them. i have this set up and its awesome!

I'm jus worried bout that back window, well all the reaer windows come to think of it, wudn't wanna pop any from the bass.

i have a 12" sub in my car, and i should've bought two 10's. i reckon thats the way to go for really decent sound. the 10's keep it punchy, but because there are two its still loud!!!

get sony splits for the front.

i dunno dude...

you must go with what you're keen on. if you like sony, then go with sony. they make some nice equipment.

i'm not really clued up on the sound side though. but i know that i would never put oval speakers into my car.

so i say forget the 6x9 and 7x10. go with another set of 6" splits for the rear, or perhaps 6" coaxials.

make sure you get enough of an amp to handle all the speakers, or maybe two amps!

I also have 12" sony sub, sometimes play it to loud. And the glass is still fine.
Sony 6x9 rear. sony Head Unit. Sony 6" front.
Yup I'm also a Sony fan.
I made templates for the front, cut them out, only to find that the site I got the template from resized the pic or something, I got agitated and force fitted the screws into the pastic. It works tho.

Cut the template out and check it to the car before going through all the hard work, but it does make a huge change to the 4x5 torn stock speakers

If I remember correctly the 7x10 somehow use the same size hole as the 6x9, test it first tho. The knob before me cut the one hole to big so only two screws actually hold my one rear speaker inplace. It hasnt hit me on my head yet, but finding a back board might be a big task.

I think I probably would have tried to replace the rear stock speakers with 6" like DK Veecee mentioned, I have seen adapters sold on ebay for this. I say this because as the boot lifters start getting old the weight of the backboard+speakers pulls the lid down alot easier mine usually doesnt stay closed for long, and the lid slamming down I think is not to cool for the R 12k glass

still finding a back board might be a big task unless you can make one.

A split system whether it be 5" or 6" is made up of 1 x mid range speaker and 1 x separate tweeter, which runs through a passive crossover. This means that the cable from your amp or head unit runs to the cross over and the gets split up into their relevant frequencies to the mid and tweeter.

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php ... dstr=&str=

A co-ax speaker, like your 6x9, 7x10, 10" limpids, 6" & 5" have the mid and tweeter/s all fixed together in one unit as a single component. This means that the cable from your amp or head unit gets attached directly onto the speaker.

http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview.php ... dstr=&str=

hope this helps...

My sound install in my other car is as follows:
Kenwood 12" sub in boot
Kenwood 6" spilts in front
Kenwood 5" co-ax in rear
Kenwood amplifier and cross over

This gives the car a full sound without having too much sound in the rear.

:D

Hey I'm also a big Sony fan... Just don't have cash for decent sound atm...

But ja here is my setup: Sony GT616, 12" Sony xplode sub in custom enclosure, custom back board with 6x9's and still got the stock front speakers.

I built myself a new backboard because I didn't want to cut my original one, but due to that the backboard is now very heavy. so i didn't hook it up to the boot lid, I was afraid it'll rip out that little plastic hakkies..

But non the less the car sound good I just want to replace my front spreakers with some mids.

Alfy the radio you're looking at is very nice, I-pod connectivity and so on.

And ja normally 7x10 was spacers in thus ppl cut the hole the size of a 6x9 but just check to make sure..

ok and on the whole split/coaxial/mid thing:

Splits: This is a set of speakers containing a crossover a tweeter and a midrange driver.
The crossover is there to take out the low and midbass to the tweeters and only give midbass to the mids(4-6"round speakers).

So the tweeter give the clear hi piched sounds and the mids the normal midrange sounds.

It works best If you have a sub for the low bass, and another set splits in the rear as well, though you will need an amp that can run both split systems and the sub...

Mids: like i just said it's just a standard set of 4-6" speakers no built in tweeter.

Coaxial(ok here i might be wrong but): This is a round speaker with a built in tweeter so the tweeter is on top of the speaker.

So if you have the cash go for 2x sony splits, sony 12" or 2x10" subs and a sony or targa amp. IMO.

Thanks u guys, appreciate all the help and advice.

When I bought the sx it had the sh!ttest setup. Singer 7x10's in the rear, 5x4's(i think?) in the front and the crappest sansui front loader the dude oculd get his hands on. needless to say, none of it works for love nor money.

I am big when it comes to music, I mean music is my life.
Ther is nothing better than belting down the highway with ya tunes blairing in the backround. I like drive to the beat. lol

Although when I first got the sx I thought to myself, why on earth wud anyone want to put sounds in this car when it sounds so damn beautiful.

BUT, I miss my tunes.

Thanks again guys, I'll update u when I am further along with the install.

Oh yes, one more thing, the speaker covers in the front doors hav got the sh!t kicked out of them, any ideas on how I can put in much better, newer, flashier looking ones? Cos I don't think that the ones I'll get with any of the speakers I buy will work. Maybe enclosure? A bit of fibre glass here and there?

Let me know wot u think.

Peace out yo. lol.
