Air Con

Question: when I put my aircon on my cars idling falls heavely and wants to die, my idle is at 1.2, as soon as I put the aircon on it falls to 0.7 or so and sometimes dies, I know the aircon valve thingy does that but I had two and it didn't work, unless they are broken....what do you think?

All I can say is to check that relay of yours. Double check to see if the bloody ting is working.

If the revs are dropping then the relay is working as the clutch is kicking in.

I'd check for any vacuum leaks and maybe give the idle valve a good clean.

FICD valve. That's the valve on the AAC assembly (the gold/aluminium one sticking out to the right, right at the top of your intake manifold). That's the one that picks up the idle when you switch on the aircon. Your aircon is working fine, you need to check the FICD valve. Check the connectors and see if there's power coming to it when you put the aircon on. If so, open up the AAC assembly and take out the FICD valve 'cos it's probably stuck with dry oil build up. I cleaned mine out with Q20 and made sure the plunger was moving smoothly.

i'm not sure if that valve does all that though... these are my reasons:

1. FOR = the FCID/AAC valve does control idle, at least its supposed to. it does get all clogged up with oily crap over time, and because it doesnt really get wet, it does cake up and can block the air passage. you have an idle control problem. makes perfect sense hey?

2. AGAINST = i dont have an AAC or an FCID, or any other of that stupid electronic crap. all of my little holes on that side of the plenum have been blocked off. i did this before i removed my aircon, and i didnt have the symptoms that draco is describing!

3. ON THE FENCE = i do (did) however have vaguely similar symptoms when i used other accessories that consume lots of power. when i used my aircon my revs used to drop slightly (about 100rpm), with the AAC/FCID removed. when i turn on my headlights, i lose about 100rpm, AAC/FCID removed. when i use my hooter, an even slighter loss of rpm. and in the morning when its cold my idle searches, from about 600-900rpm until its nicely warm.

SORRY = so this reply has been long and hasnt really helped!!!

From the bible... errm I mean FSM:

The F.I.C.D. solenoid valve compensates for changes in idle speed caused by the operation of the air compressor (page EF & EC 12)

As I said, I have 2 of those, both the plug in front was broken, the valve itself looked fine, I tried with and without but that does not work, that to me means they are broken or something is not working the way it should.

I might be willing to pay if it solves my problem.....

But didnt you say that your idle control valve was completely shut because of a broken O ring??

I fixed it.....that makes me think....when I had it closed totally it was fine....now it is open and the aircon sucks!!!!

Something to check....thanks Gary

I went and checked it out.....closed the manual idling valve and set my idling with the manual butterfly idling screw.....tested the aircon, it fell again but only to 0.8 rpm, then checked the wires to the idling valve that was off...shorted it....blew a fuse....replaced the fuse....now all seems great...will see if it stays that way...
