My gut feel is it will feel shorter and diferent but will not be the real mcoy.
Looking at the shortshifter recently bought, but still not fitted, the angle of the shaft I beleive is the important part?? i can be totally wrong.

the reason the short shifters work is that the pivot point is moved higher than normal.

this means that less throw will create the same movement below the pivot point. this does however call for the person doing the shifting to use more effort.

in short (scuse the pun) cutting the original shifters shaft will not give you a truely shorter shift. it will feel slightly different to stock but the amount of throw required to engage a particular gear will be the same as before!

i'm not so sure that angle has anything to do with it either.

btw, is everybody now happy with the "group shifters"?
or does nobody want to talk about it anymore? i recall there was some moaning about noises and fitting - that sorted now?

Mine still makes noises but only when my gear knob is on. The reason is the gear knob had plastic threads in it which stripped so I put a helicoil in and now the sound resonates through the steel thread.
