howdee folks, there is a new funny sound (yes yes I know they're old cars)

Any of you guys have seen the inside of the dashboard? There is a loud KRRRRR that seems to come from behind the right hand vent. It only does that when I put the key on ACC when I start the car - sounds like a relay or something. When it does that, the car seems harder to start. The KRRRR stops by itself after a while, not always the same amount of time.

My guess is it is related to the petrol pump? Funny position for it though... Either that or my alarm.

Ideas please?

reading my post I started wondering if it wasn't maybe the air vent trying to shut or open. Will go and see if I can recreate the sound by playing with the vent's controls. Still would like your thoughts on this.

maybe record the sound. it wont be petrol pump relay as thats in the engine bay but could be your alarm

howdee guys, found the buzzing thing - not a tor, but a relay. Can you tell me whether this is in your car or part of my stupid alarm? While this thing goes bananas, the car is harder to start and while running, misses a beat every now and again.

either that or fuel pump, cozof the car runs out of steam when the turbo does it's thing...

Alarm relay?

fuel pump relay sits under the bonnet. that must be the alarm relay. remove the relay bridge the to contact wires and see what happens

otherwise just replace the relay see if that helps

yep, thanks. Only thing that made me think of the fuel pump is that it goes bananas for a couple of seconds after you turn the key, acc or start (like a pump priming). Problem is sometimes it doesn't stop krrrrring.

Open the relay. Torr inside not on top.
