that clutch needs to be 100% aligned or it wont go otherwise use a socket to move the crank so that the spines line up aswell. is the box in or out the car?

ja its important that the clutch is aligned and then the splines must line up. maybe try getting a broom stick or something that will fit to align it

Ran into the same problem and a budy helped me out check in the centre of your crank were the fly wheel bolts on if you have a bush inside there its a little 6mm bush as that bush aligns the gear box shaft, if the clutch it not 100% alinged it will not go in, put the gear box shaft just about in by the motor then take your prop put it on the gear box and turn in left to right till the pressure plate starts turning simultaneously with prop then you know that the splines are lined up then gear box should just slide in place, broom stick will not work if you have the bush, i hope this helps

allign it as best you can, make sure that the shaft is in the hole

Then use 2 gearbox bolts, and tighten opposite each other slowly and it will pull the two together, make sure its not skew and there should not be a lot of resistance, too much resistance, then something is not aligned... but once the splines start to align properly it will slide in easy.

Did you put a new bush in? as it might be a tighter fit to the shaft? causing a little bit of resistance.

Yea the clutch should be properly aligned or you will have issues, get a straight broom stick as suggested or get an alignment tool, you cant just guess the allignment.
