Project Type X - OEM++
It's about time a start a thread of my build.
The aim is to convert my 1992 S13 200SX to a later model 180SX Type X specification. This would entail a full SR20DET transplant and full body make over. The inspiration for my build comes from various sources, some of them even here on this forum.
The precedent for my build is the car pictured below, except for the BBS wheels. I am not too fond of them as every Golf, Polo and BMW has them on...lol
So the build started about a year ago when I started sourcing all the Type X body panels.
These include:
OEM Front bumper, including side extension for fenders
OEM style lower bumper lip (not genuine though, fibreglass replica)
OEM JDM Rear Bumper including lower valance panels
Bomex side skirts (not a real fan of the OEM type)
OEM Kouki taillights
OEM RPS13 centre garnish panel with Carbon fibre finish
OEM Lower body panel to accept Kouki tailights
Circuit Sports Clear side repeaters that fit on the front of the fender and not behind the wheel as the Chuki model
OEM Kouki bootspoiler
Mirrors as per the white car pictured above. Would've loved a set of Ganadors, but couldn't justify spending R6k on a pair of side mirrors.
Mechanical & Electrical parts I have attained so far include:
Full SR20DET conversion (trying to keep it fairly stock with just a little bit of added power, nothing too hectic)
Haltech ECU, Existing Perfect Power to be removed
MSD Ignition & Coils
Nismo dash cluster
Suspension & Brakes
Powerbrake front disks & pads (already installed)
Koni coilovers
Hyperflex polybush kit (already installed)
Engine was removed on 24 January. Here's a pic of the old CA still running and in good condition.
Pic of the new SR to be installed. What a nice clean stock boytjie!
Pics taken of the Engine now fitted to the car on 4 February. Took these pics this morning.
There's still a couple of odds & ends I need to get before it's transplant is complete. The aim is to get all the stock items working 100%. These include the A/C fittings and plumbing and ABS wiring to existing ECU.
Hope you guys enjoy the build along with me as I sure have enjoyed following some of your builds. Updates on certain milestones to follow in due time.

Re: Project Type X - OEM++
Thanks to everyone for the feedback and comments.
Quick update - Dropped off the Haltech (thanks Poizen & DriftZ), MSD ignition, OEM radiator cowling, AC pump bracket over the weekend. Removing the 2 x 12" electric fans as it has given me a few issues in the past. Besides... It's not OEM.
Started making arrangements for the new boost pipes as I will retain my existing FMIC (approx 450 x 300) and just redo the plumbing to it. The pipes will be powdercoated black and all silicone hoses used will be black as well.
Still deciding on which Dumpvalve to install. My options are the HKS SSQV or Tial variants. Still undecided, but need to buy one soon.
Having some issues with the AC and PS units as the intention is to get it as close to stock as possible and I need the AC & PS working 100% as this will be my new daily once it is complete. My wife has "claimed" the 350Z and now I am rocking the Focus to work and back everyday, much to my dismay. Will hopefully have a complete list of parts / components still needed ny this afternoon.
If there are guys that have successfully done the transplant and had their AC and PS working 100%, please feel free to comment.
The plan was to send it for painting of the enginebay while the engine was out, but unfortunately I failed to plan properly and synchronise with the Tuner and with BK. Luckily the color change is not that radical, so I am sure it will still look fine.
@ Draco - I attemped to load the pics as per your request, but what a freakin mission!!! I ended up with pics all over the show and I just dont have the patience. PM me you email address and I will mail progress pics to you. The next lot of pics I will upload as attachments.
