Sometimes a person cannot see the tree`s for the woods..Know what I mean??
Driving my car as a daily I am getting real bad fuel consumption.I mean REAL bad..
Ok, Getz chicky still tries me every day and I have to at least beat her on my way home so sometimes its a trailing throttle building up gentle boost to just just pull ahead without all the drama. I enjoy her, full of spunk, giving it horns every time we meet..so, yes. I do gee it a couple of times here and there.
BUT, I have also not been happy with all sorts of things regarding response and engine pickup.
Driving her back from Paarl I was impressed with the mapping as in how smooth it was all over and she actually was not bad driving .
Now, when I come across a map like this I have a look, save it for emergency fcukups and then start playing. I have been playing a lot but something still was not right in the response area.. Pick up was also lacking..Last night I leave for home and connect the laptop., basically throw caution to the wind and start setting "my" preferred timing and fueling map. Timing for response and pickup-especially into boost between full throttle n/a and about 0.5 Bar..previously this was set at 19 degrees , I had picked it up to 22 deg conservatively but last night kept it at n/a levels. ie: 37 deg sloping down to 25 deg at 1.2 bar .
Faaark ! To say I really enjoyed my dive into work this morning is a gross under statement...!
The pick up even in first gear is spectacular. The pickup at highway speeds is phenomenal by comparison to the previous setup which I thought was pretty good.
Ok, it was a drive to work of about 25 Kays only , it may be a damp squid later on after a few drives but I dont think sooooo....
On the down side I also leaned things out at the bottom end for cruising. This resulted in a serious popping of the exhaust on over run..with lurid flames from the exhaust as I was driving through Edenvale town and noticing the yellow glow in the shop windows ! Lekker for showing off and swinging your dick but not good for numerous reasons. Went back to the extreme vac area on the map and found my rich running region ! 2.2 ms on 650 cc injectors on overun will give you vlamme by the dozen !
Funny thing is the Lambda sensor was NOT telling me this ! Strange, makes me wary of the sensor so I will replace it today with a new one. For shits and giggles I will also fit my Innovate setup to do comparative monitoring..
I have already been asked by some RB owners for the maps I have done. I will make these available to the forum as soon as I have finished (haha!!) with the maps and am happy with the results.
No expectations given or expected , just my little effort in making my car better for ME..but you are welcome to try and criticize, constructively and perhaps with a cumulative input we can nail this all down..for std. engines at least...

nice work so far, love the ikea shifter.
you sure the timing is matched between dicktator and motor?
below is a table of my stock motor timing that ran a 12.2sec 1/4

sorry bout the table, spaces seem to dissapear when i submit
for responce, try tomei 256 poncams
see someone advertising gt35 for good price, spools alot faster than the "mr turbo" turbo
p.s remember dailback timing light and wasted spark will give false reading
rather zero the light and use the pulley marks, centre mark = 15degree

Invaluable info bud, thanks a ton.
Yes, turbo may be on upgrade but not quite yet. The response at the moment is rather good.
Mmm, cams...yea, I may start playing at some stage..
Dial backs are a bugger if you are not aware of wasted spark setups ..
Using my old trusted Snap-on light..
Looking at your timing data I'm moving in the right direction..

So my only lift is and has been occupied by a BMW X5 that has had a water damaged engine. So the complete front suspension is out hence my frustration at not being able to get my car on a lift.
Yesterday I finished off my mate Johns GT4 Celica for him but struck problems as we are leaving to meet up with Fred at the Rock.
Boost keeps hitting 1.5 bar and blowing everything off in sight. (Fitted a new GT3071R..)
So off to a mate of mines shop and we sort the problems out on the Celica.
We finish of at about 3:45 and I decide to stick my car on the lift...
The engine is being held up by the anti roll bar at the front and by the steering rack at the rear. All on the sump !!
The engine mounts have been cut from 10mm plate welded up in a triangular setup -extremely strong-but its way forward of the car mounting point. Mounts are held down with a single 12mm bolt onto the car.
These bolts have , because of the weight of this engine, and the fulcrum effect it has on the single bolt, now torn out of the car and the engine has come to rest on the above mentioned components.
Guys, if you`re going to this , make sure the engine rests in a downward direction on the chassis. Here we have a heavy engine with a fulcrum effect of at least twenty cm back to the original mounting tower, held on by the original single bolt.
I simply shake my head in disbelief at this .
On a brighter side I put the waste gate outlet back into the exhaust. There was no pipe attached to the waste gate at all, so it was fcukin awful to listen to.
Besides, a screamer is just not me.
Today I took the turbo off so I could get some specs. on it. Ok, so its a chinese turbo with probably local Mr Turbo cast exhaust housing on it. No data, no A.R number, nothing.
I stuck on my spare built sleeve turbo of known specs to see how things compare.
My turbo has a .58 A.R hot housing, dash 5 Turbonetics shaft, 60-1 comp wheel and a .60 AR. cold side. and its still a sleeve bearing turbo.
Verdict ? A bit longer to come on boost, but good solid sweep up to 14 psi. with that real silent sound..know what I mean ??
Ill order a new BB from Ian this week for her. after fixing up everything...and the box has now finally had it as well. Select reverse and it whines like a biatch. Select first and it clunks loudly as you take off.
It is going to break soon.
Oh, and once I`ve sorted everything out the engine and new drive train will come onto the market.
My project engine and drive train is now compete for this car.

Did u not notice the broken mountings when u replaced the mounting rubbers 2 weeks ago?BigKriss wrote:Change the bloody Ford v6 engine mountings some idiot fitted while doing the conversion ! HTF can you use these for this conversion ??
Just asking, because if they were not broken after 2 years Alistair had the car, maybe u should have a look at your new mountings.
R32 GTR
I have a new turbo v8 engine for this car standing by. It needed finishing off so I have not quite stripped anything from the car yet. No, Ford rubbers have not been changed yet. If I do, car will come off the road for a few weeks to get the big engine in.
That seems to have been forwarded some as the engine is on the sump and anti roll bar now.
MOUNTINGS are not broken, they are made from triangulated 10mm flat bar ! The 12mm single bolt holding the RB up is attached to the chassis mount box which has a weld nut under the box.The weld nut is busy pulling through the mounting box on the chassis. Why ? It is not made to act as a lever point for the mount. It is designed to stop a mount acting in a downward force from MOVING.
Nothing more, nothing less.
From all the PM,s and e-mails I`m getting it seems I`m stepping on some toe`s here.
Quite frankly, that`s tough. mediocre workmanship should never be accepted as the norm.Unfortunately it seems to be the norm here in S.A.
The sad reality of it all is that people are prepared to accept this crap AND part with money for it.
Remember that polished and shiny sh*t does not make a good conversion.
Alistair, this in no way is a reflection on you bud. Not at all. I am convinced you also did not all of this when you sold the car.
You and I are cool.

no problem dude.
Sometimes when youve bought something and its not up to your particular standards and things are not done the way you would have done it, you tend to focus on the negatives rather than the positives.
Barry you still have a f...kin nyc car, good body, good interior, good engine, good suspension. From my side alot of hours went into the car and lotsa money lotsa memories and only about 3000kms in 3 years.
Barry you will enjoy the it is one of the better s14`s around.

Never disputed this bud, I really am enjoying the drive and the experience. It is just the bad workmanship on her that is rather disappointing.neptune wrote:no problem dude.
