Are you sure you've got the timing right?

I think so... but was sitting thinking about that last nite too... it could very well be the timing.... but got it as close to the stock spec as possible.

Shit thats not nice, but when you turn it by hand? It should get a bit "stuck" shouldn't it? If its the valve hitting though? :?

no markings :( so couldn't do it like that... got the points on the cam gears as close to 10 and 12 oclock as possible.

Thanx Wynand. Think I'll do that. Will need to get a tester first though.

haven't touched the motor yet :( speaking to wynand over the weekend it might possibly be the shims... so will try and pull of the cam cover and the cams tonite. do a compression test tomorrow and then see if the comp is fine just check the shims. Hopefully thats the only problem... :)

ok so redoing the comp test on monday... hehe just to recheck as my dads comp tester seemed a bit flaky... and also getting the stock shims measured so I can put them back in the right places and then measure clearance again to see if I need new shims o.O but at R100 a shim I really hope I don't need any :P

For now here are some pics:

Looking good, the white really pops!
Interesting intake location, should look nice when it's all completed.

yeah! the white really works well :) yeah the intake was a interesting one... I wanted to get it out the engine bay... so thought yeah why not... just move it to the front... now just to fit the filter and see if the bumper clears it... nice cold induction :D
