I have just read this whole thread and excuse my rudeness but how the F$*ck did you get this right?
This car is NOT a collectors item that allows it to be imported, does not make sense to me.......
I really hope for your sake someone has not made a mistake from ITAC wrt to the permit!!!!!!
If this car is allowed to be brought in it will open a shit storm for SARS etc as all the guys will be bringing them in for cheap and it will kill our local industry, and you know how anal they are about that !!!!

Peace
I phoned ITAC, SARS, SABS & the NRCS and they told me that I am allowed to bring it in.

I went by their word and by the fact that I applied for both my Import permit and the Letter of Authority (LOA1) and they where both approved.
I can not tell them what to differentiate my car as a collectors item or not, they did that all on their own.

The paperwork was approved and I have it in my possession to prove it.

I wont import a car knowingly if they are not allowed.
That is just a stupid thing to do.

Phone them to see for yourself.

Maybe the regulation changed or the R32, R33 & R34 series of Skyline is regarded as a collectors item, I honestly do not know.

All I know is I am legally getting mine into RSA and I am getting it registered for use on public roads.
That is what I explained to everybody before I did anything.

You will see when it is here.

There are a couple of people that are just importing to make some money. There are many gullible persons willing to buy these cars that will never last in this country.
I was offered an incredibly clean and low km,s Gts in exchange for my S14. Upon further inquiry It was made very clear that I could never register the car here legally. A brilliant car but not for me..

I`m talking about the guy advertising ANYTHING from Japan mentioned in the link above.

I phoned a chap , Andre, from Pretoria who was selling R32 and R33`s for R60 to 80 K. off Gumtree.. He will give you the car, papers, and that`s it. Oh, as a favour he will hook you up with a phone number of a guy "who can register it for you for a fee".. Ja, not interested thanks dude.

@Vegetta . I understand you have phoned the right people and they say you can bring it in but the only reason you allowed to Import a car LEGALLY been GTR,RX7,Supra as a COLLECTABLE car. If its not on the list you cant bring it in so excuse my negativity.
I am just trying to understand how they are allowing this, they are confiscating and crushing import cars every week that are not allowed to be here. This is SA and i promise you when the shit hits the fan and they realise this is not a collectable and screw you over :( , just saying be very careful here as its your hard earned cash.....

Keep us up to date as this is very interesting, cause if you allowed to bring in the GTS legally then any car can be brought in like this Andre guy is doing. Free for all here we come.

What is the point of not allowing certain cars here?

Because it will kill the local car industry.

Not sure if you all saw this post in that thread on 9000rpm:

[quote=PugLa][quote=2zz-Spook]All imported cars are fully legal and registered in South Africa for personal use only and will have to be used for a period of 24 months before you decide on selling the car.
If you have a Racing permit then the car will only be allowed and on the track n not be driven on the roads for personal use.

The time period for delivery is 6-12 weeks depending on shipping route.
If there are any scratches or dents occurred during shipping of the vehicle, we will attend to it before the car is delivered to you. Once the vehicle has arrived, it will need to be taken for police clearance and logged onto the system. This process takes another 2-3 weeks. Once that is completed the car will be taken for C.O.R and then licensed onto the owners name.

Upon buying the car, a percentage will have to be paid up front to confirm your order, a receipt will be issued to you showing the amount paid and what is owing.
The total price will include : vehicle, tax, customs, duties, C.O.R, license & registration.
People living outside KZN will have to arrange means of getting the car transported.
the following documents will be needed: I.D and a Affidavit that I will supply where you will have to sign and state that the car will not be sold within 24 months and will only be used for personal use. This Affidavit will need to be stamped at the police station.

Below are some of the cars that will be available:

Supra SZ (2jzge) – R80 000 to R130 000
Supra RZ (2jzgte) – R130 000 to R165 000 ( 1994 ) ----------- (2000 - R200000)
Nissan Skyline R33 GTS (RB25DET) – R80 000 to R125 000
Nissan Skyline R34 (RB25DET) – R130 000 to R180 000 ---- Not sure you got this price because its too low... Retails for 15000 pounds +- R150000 PLUS Dutys -+ 100%
Subaru GH-GDB (1994 – 1998) 2.0T – R80 000 to R125
Celica GT-Four (3sgte) – R80 000 to R125 000
MR2 (3sgte) – R70 000 to R100 000

@ WF
Please dont say that....or else ;)
I do understand that if the market gets floaded it is no good for no one, but(definition=forget evering I just said and hear what I say next)
Drifting is a very fast growing sport and for those who wish to compete who cannot get there hands on a proper desent ride or want to upgrade this is good.
Everything does have his pro's and Con's.
But please dont say that about me...

That whole police clearance thing is bull shit when I bought my car the papers and vin no were the same but not on the nantis system and they took 3 months to clear my car and in the end the officer said to me he does not know what the one cymbal is so we must decide what it is....

Any ways I'd turn that into a drift car and keep it off the streets just to be on the safe side...
Nd good luck with it..
