Fluffybunny... How is your motor running now?
Do you run it in hard but still only at lower revs?

Okay, a bit of sh!t has hit the fan...

On our way to the power steering place to get the oil leak fixed the car started smoking mildly... I thought it was some of the paint from the parts I painted so we continued driving...

When we got to the place the car started smoking heavily...
We opened up the bonnet to find that one of the water hoses had disconnected and that there was no water in the system...
The tappet covers were sizzling hot but yet the water gauge is on normal operating temp!
My dad towed me back home...
We checked the oil... It was still full and it was still the same colour as before but it smells burnt though...
The motor still starts up after we cooled it down...

I'm not sure if the internals are still fine or if the rings and bearings are fine :?
If anyone could please give me some tips on what to do to check the condition of the engine while it's in the car and any other advice please, I'm so worried I dunno what to do

Fixed the water problem yesterday... Engine starts nicely, warms up quite quickly to operating temp... Is this normal for a newly rebuilt motor?
Gonna try set the timing properly today and take her for a ride...

The temp gauge does move quite quickly it is normal but remember oil takes a while to heat up.

How did you mount the fans? flush or with the flatbar in between?

Is there water in your oil?

Blockages in your water jackets?

All the pipes clean and flowing well?

Radiator clean and flowing well?

check all those things?

removing the thermo is not a good idea.

specially not on a newly rebuilt engine!
