today i ask buddies and work people if there isn't an ancient laptop lying around not being used, requirements are that it at the very least has a battery! LOl.
friggin new technology, why cant the ECU manufacturers make units with USB, or convert old units to talk via usb!

LOL Nistune is USB , Sorry didn’t mean to be rude. Don’t have a day of connection issues except when I start the car then I need to reconnect.
I have to admit those USB to serial converters don’t work well they only work with slow input devices like printers here at work we have to get an old serial lap-top to connect to the PLC's and stuff.
I using on for the wideband works great

my Bikirom has a usb connection but that has problems too... all these flippen devices that don't work right really suck... I hope if I have to go to nistune I don't have similar issues... I pray for my biki to work once I refit it...

so road tuning today...
was friggin awesome! finally sorted all the little niggly bits and bobs, and got sokar with me in the passenger seat, and we went for a drive (again).
after sitting all afternoon and getting the timing map to mirror that of the stock s13 SR20det blacktop motor (thanks PFB for deciphering the stock nissan map), i also sat for a while trimming the fuel way down. it was way to rich on boost. i was hitting between 8 and 9 on the AFR's!
went for a drive, thinking it was ok. but i still 9's on boost. so sokar leaned the map out further while we were driving. when he was ready he said "GO FOR IT!"
AND MY GAWD!!! the sr20det unleashed the fury on the quiet little roads of fairland, JHB! i think a few cyclist and pensioners walking their dogs nearly had heart failure...
then i looked over at sokar, who looked a little green!!! i was also very surprised at the power.
after the initial shock, we calmed down to assess things:
1. the fuel map/curve over rpm is still very crued and needs some finetuning! one or two fuel cells were returning about 12.5-12.7 AFR on boost, which may be a bit lean, specially cos this was at around 5000rpm!
2. after speaking to gary the timing is ultra conservative, and can also be fine tuned.
3. we realised that the car was only boosting 0.4bar. i must check for leaks, but if this is true - then it will be the most powerful car i've ever owned.
it seriously felt enormously strong! and sources say that there is still much to be extracted from the engine!!!
I cant wait to get the finetuning done, so i can get myself higher up the ladder!!!
thanks to sokar and gary for all the help!

Ok I think this thread is going to have a few guys here break their engines because they are "tuning" themselves.
Guys dont be heros and try tune yourself, listen to VC, its not that easy. Take your car to a decent tuner and get them to sort it out, try stay with the car while they tuning.
Real time tuning > datalogged tuning.

LOL...
I didn’t break mine or Nizan-R's and both pull real good, VC seems to be doing OK. Anyone with a brain can work NIStune and if you have a supported wideband the fuel map is easy to sort out plus all the guides offered by Matt and his team to get it right.
I’m Sorry I think anyone can give it a try it like why you first change your cam belt its scary you don’t want to mess-up your motor but after doing it a few time you wonder what all the fuss was about. It’s a matter of balls and taking responsibility if you Screw-up. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist, engineer or doctor just have a understanding but I will say this Tuning is an art and guys like Rezlo have been doing it for years it will take a lot of experience to get to there level but you will normally only be tuning your car and you know how she feels and responds

Good to hear VeeCee there is such a feeling of satisfaction when you get shit right by yourself
1. the fuel map/curve over rpm is still very crued and needs some finetuning! one or two fuel cells were returning about 12.5-12.7 AFR on boost, which may be a bit lean, specially cos this was at around 5000rpm!
A little I run close to 12.1 through my whole range
after speaking to gary the timing is ultra conservative, and can also be fine tuned
I can sent you a Mines tuned timming curve but maybe play it on the conservative side
3. we realised that the car was only boosting 0.4bar. i must check for leaks, but if this is true - then it will be the most powerful car i've ever owned.
Remeber to richen everything up when you think you have resolved the leak

thanks PFB, it IS a great feeling man! we were so chuffed!
i dont think there is actually a boost leak but i will double check. i am using an old s14 wastegate so i suspect that! will be looking at the HKS one soon i guess!
hey PFB - can you organise some of those lekka T-bolt clamps for me? from that place near you? i've been looking all over JHB and cant find any for a decent price!

Well played Vaughn, you've really persevered. Glad all the hard work has paid off
Have you taken down your for sale thread? Your car was the bargain of the year at R55k.
