I see that a.f.r are more constant in tuning on differant engines, but timing can be difficult, my SR20 runs 26deg under 0.7 boost with no problem, RB26 about 21deg on 0.7bar, if given more, its starts a light ping. All on 95 petrol, 11.5 a.f.r.
Will fit w/meth on RB26 to see if we can run more timing.

The timing map is a bitch, I run 23 degrees timing for 0.7-1bar with W/M, any more and I also get a light ping...

I still need to get round to running a richer mixture and add more timing, but no time yet...

Yep timing is the issue.. .

Just took delivery of my new NIStune board today will try to install it tonight and run the car tomorrow logging the knock I get at 21 degrees at 1.1 bar then we can she how off the timing was and correct it.

I will post results as I get them, but what I can see from the few Jap tuned maps I have is the SR take way less timing then the CA18\RB series motors so its a bit weird

Might be compression on the SR with Arias pistons, not sure what it is at. We even tried 28 deg, but made no differance.

Howzit Guys....

I have picked up a little issue with the CA18DET that I have never had, This issue only started after I installed the new NISTune board but I dont know if its related, The car has a bad misfire on boost so bad that I cant rev past 5000RPm but it does rev clean all the way to 74000rpm at light throttal loads , I can see that the back-fire shows up as knocking on the new board.

Is this related to Spark being blown out? Do I need to reduce my 1mm gap?

Try reduce the gap, very easy to do, but it sound like its from the board...

I am not saying it will solve your problem....but set it to 0.6, I have done this for a long time by advice from a tuner when my sx did the same, they run even less gap when they boost 1.5 bar and higher.

If it solves your problem...great....if not, no damage.

You got a CA18 jet turbine there? Whats your ground speed at that rpm? :)

Does sound like its the board if you haven't changed anything else. I don't know how you've got the new board tuned but is it not maybe the board detecting knock and pulling excessive timing that its causing the miss?

Thanks for the help Guys...

Going to replace the plugs with ones with a smaller gap, I’m not a real fan on this Idea but it will have to work till I can get new up rated coils gping to try 0.8mm first, I hope its not the board as I love the new Knock support but I just had an idea that I need to check my boost cut threshold as well.

No it’s not pulling any timing, the knock sensor is triggering with the misfire registering single knock events not Even triggering the knock timing maps and fuel maps, I’m a bit pissed off because I wanted to start tuning the Timing map this weekend but at least this has told me that the Knock Sensor is working

Thanks

Well I found the miss Problem, It seems there is a Problem with the NIstune Type 1 REV 15 boards so I don't have knock support any more but Matt at NIStune is helping me sort out a solution.

Also Thanks to a screw up on NIStunes side again the address file on the new Rom Pack is incorrect, Curtain maps where accidentally switched and It almost cost me my motor, I hit 15.6 AFR at 0.8 bar EGT 1500.F all the way to redline twice before I resolved this issue, this has really Pissed me off and Matt and his team got a very nice E-mail from me.

It obvious that the motor started knocking at those AFR's but strangle it wasn't audible when in the car,JUst a Huge drop in power, I don't know how that could be I basically pulled the motor apart when I got home, The plugs are peppered but not badly, I have seen worse, I'm even more confused ??

I did a Comp test again the third one in the last two weeks with the same results 850KPA over all, But I hope no long term damage was done but its no easy to say.

Strangle After resolving the issue the car feels slower at 1.1 bar but his might be all in my head , I don't know, I have installed new plugs at 0.9mm gap,I'm just glad to have resolved this Miss issue.
