Jeez long time no update... not entirely my fault... couldn't get to the site :x

I pulled the engine on Tuesday night, made a lekker stuff up as I couldn't get my gear lever out (didn't have a circlip pliers) and spilled the gearbox oil all over the garage floor...

If you have ever removed a RWD car's gearbox you would know that when you remove the propshaft the gearbox oil will come out when the gearbox is tilted to the back, I did try and prevent it by covering it with some bags and tape... but due the gear lever I had to push the gearbox right down to the floor and I teared the bag open by mistake... :x Big mess

Engine is out now

Some engine progress, missing some cams I will be re-using my current engine's cams and lifters (they are 100% fine) and are originally from that head

I went to fetch a buddy at Gold-Reef yesterday (Xmas party) didn't want him to drive drunk so I fetched him, on the way back stopped by Autostyle (Other than Big Boys toys in PTA, they are the 2nd most helpless people out there) and then by a mag place in Fordsburg and I came across these...

That is Work Meister SP1's, R18K a set... I'm very very tempted  But suspension and LSD is priority.

Vlade, goodness but the new engine looks fantastic. Tell me, I notice the manifold. Are you prepaired to move the ABS to make space for manifold,or what do you think. According to rezlo, some fit nicely without touching ABS. What is going to happen in your situation or dont you know yet. Would like to clear this one once and for all. And second question: What is you intensions with the old engine? Buil it up again, spares etc???

It does look there is enough space, but if there isn't I will have no choice to move it 8)

If I do need to move it I will post some detailed pictures on how to do it...

Vlade, your old engine, what u gonna do with it? Can I get the crankshaft and crank pulley, please? :-) Or can I buy the whole engine from you?

My whole engine will be for sale soon, I'll list it next week... Bottom end is 100% needs a new head gasket and some new valve stem seals...

I have an extra crank STD bearing size its keyway is also damaged but I was quoted R400 to have it professionally fixed. I'll be able to supply a crank pulley as well. Not sure how much for the crank... But the semi complete engine will go between R3000-R4000

The engine I guess have around 120 000Km on, bought it with 95 000, used it for 2 years.

Am I keen to fit it... To be honest not really :? Doubt I'll be able to get time to do it. The other thing is I can't guarantee my work, and I would hate doing something to your car and just down the road it stuffs out again, learned my lesson by working on other peoples cars.

Ok Children our topic for today is OIL COOLER FITMENT the BBJ way!

By default the oil cooler adapter is a pretty easy setup, the sandwich plate that Rezlo sent me screws on between the Oil Filter and the engine... so easy a girl can do it... BUT... I thought since our cars already have an oil cooler... YES Euro spec CA18's come with a oil cooler, I just wanted to replace this with an air cooled unit instead.

Now people will say why not just leave the old unit on there... The Idea is to bring the average oil temperature down, if you cool your oil too much it isn't good... I did some research and most race cars just use a air cooled unit, and that is why I went for a 19 row unit and not the smaller 13 row one...

Image
Image of a stock old spec water cooled oil cooler on my old CA18DET. The water outlet from the engine feeds the cooler with some water from the radiator and the HOT water will return into the engine.

I decided to replace this unit with the sandwich plate which by chance happens to fit on there :D Its not meant to go on there, but will do the job. But I needed to modify the existing unit in order to make it fit.

Stock how it fits together

Oil Cooler cover
------------------
Oil Cooler Stud
------------------
Oil Cooler
------------------
Oil Cooler support

Check LC-7 on the service manuals if you are a bit lost

Now the oil cooler from Rezlo is smaller in height so I needed to shorten the Oil cooler stud, shown below

Image
On the left the standard stud, on the right my shortened stud

Image
On the left sandwich plate from Rezlo, on the right stock oil cooler

I also needed to shorten the stud onto what the oil cooler stud bolts on, as the oil cooler stud didn't have enough thread on the inside :?

Shortened stud on the oil cooler support

Image
Sandwich plate, with my gauge's Oil Pressure / Oil Temp... Way cool that the unit comes with places to bolt these onto

Thanks

Thats one of the reasons why I'm posting it here on the SX forum... To help with the advertising as well... I might have gotten twice as much views or replies on the SXOC site or maybe Zoopeded...

There is over a 1000 SX's in South Africa if we can get 30% those people on this forum and have them actively participate... its gonna be one hell of a club...

Howzit. How much did u get the bushes for?
Ru going to make your own bracebar? The ones I see looks like it just got a bar in between the suspension arms anyway.I also got 300zx calipers, have you devised a plan how to fit the rears yet and sourced some braided hoses?

The bushes for a 240SX and a MK1 Golf worked out to about R1400 not sure what the exact price was fro the 240SX set... But I imported them from the US...

Yip making my own bracebar... Yeah the Z32 calipers is an really easy mod I still short some rotors for the rear and I need to source some bigger mags as my current ones don't clear the calipers.

I spoke to one of the guys at CRS pitstop as soon as my calipers is on the car he will come visit me and measure the hoses up to have some braided items manufactured... but I first need to sort my clearance problem on the calipers...
