ill weld it up but theres no way im sanding it again, but it will look good in the black.
atleast its not just a flat black, has some pearl & diamond in!
all the brackets will also be sandblasted & powder coated. dont know what colour yet.
i want to keep it original not looking like a colouring book.

WHAT A BUSY MONTH,
COULDN'T DO MUCH SO WERE MOSTLY BUSY WITH SANDING & FIXING DENTS & SHAIT.
AFTER THE GOOD ADVICE OF WELDING THE SEEMES IN THE ENGINE BAY I REALIZED I NEED A MIG WELDING MACHINE.
I HAD TO SAVE UP FOR THAT BUT NOW HAVE IT SO I CAN GO ON!
FIRST OFF, THE FIRST WAS TO MAKE & WELD IN FILL-PIECES WHERE THE BATTERY,BRACKETS & AIR-BOX USE TO BE.
& ALSO A COUPLE OF HOLES I DIDNT WANT TO USE.
YOU MIGHT THINK IT WAS STUPID TO WELD AFTER PRIMING BUT HAD TO AS RUST STARTED TO APEAR & DIDN'T WANT TO SUKKEL WITH THAT.
I NOW NEED TO SAND ALL THE INDIVIDUAL WELDS & FILL THE UNWELDED SEEMS WITH SEEM-SEALER.

THIS GIVES ME A GOOD OPPERTUNITY TO DO THE SEALING A BIT BETTER THAN THE FACTORY DOES.
I'LL BE VERY BUSY FROM NOW ON AS I'D LIKE TO FINNISH THIS YEAR & START WITH DRIFTING & STUFF.
I WILL ALSO KEEP UPDATING THIS ARTICLE ONCE A WEEK ONCE I'VE ACCOMPLICHED SOMETHING NEW.
TILL NEXT WEEK..., ILL BE PRIMING THE ROOF & DOOR CILLS ETC.

Way to go man! Doin it right I see... I still think you need to keep it an Sil80 but that is my view. Something really unique.
But a ubër cool project

I think some seam welding is in order for that Mig, it would stiffen up the chassis alot.

I WAS OFF ON FRIDAY & MONDAY SO SPENT MOST OF THE TIME PREPING FOR PRIMER AGAIN, WHAT A MISSION!!!!!
AFTER WELDING THE SEAMS IN THE ENGINE BAY,
THE PREVEOUS PRIMER REACTED TO THE HEAT MAKING IT THEDEOUS TO SAND BUT GOT THROUGH IT.
SO MONDAY AFTERNOON I PRIMED THE ROOF, ENGINEBAY & DOOR CAVITIES,
BASICALLY EVERYTHING THATS GOING BLACK! I ALSO SEALED ALL THE SEAMS BETWEEN THE WELDS.
BEFORE,
AFTER,
YOU MIGHT THINK I WASTE ALOT OF TIME PRIMING PIECE BY PIECE WHERE I COULD JUST SAND THE WHOLE
CAR & PRIME/PAINT IT THEN,
BUT A DOUBLE GARAGE WITH NO CEILING AIN'T THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT FOR PAINTING & BY DOING IT LIKE THIS
MAKES ME CONSENTRATE ON THAT SPICIFIC AREA.
AT THE END OF THE MONTH I WILL CONVERT MY GARAGE INTO A SPRAYBOOTH WITH EXTRACTION, CEILING, PAINTED FLOOR,
4x FLOORECENT LIGHTS & SCREENED OFF FROM WHERE MY TOOLS ARE LEAVING ME SPACE OF ONE & A HALF GARAGES TO SPRAY THE CAR PROPERLY.
IF THE $$$ ALOWS IT THOUGH.
BUT IN THE MEANWHILE I TOOK MY CALIPERS & ALL THE ENGINE-BAY BRACKETRY IN FOR POWDERCOATING.
SHOULD GET IT NEXT WEEK.. THEN THE ONLY THING IS TO SORT OUT THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO GET A
ROLLING CHASSIS THEN I SHOULD BE ON THE DOWN HILL.
EXCUSE MY SPELLING!

Nice nice... What motor setup are you planning?
A roll cage? Maybe?

by westmaister
NORMAL SR20 SETUP WITH GEARBOX,
BIGGER TURBO, INTERCOOLER, BOOST PIPES, EXHAUST,ARP HEADSTUDS.
WOULD LIKE THE 2.2l CONVERSION BUT WILL HAVE TO SAVE UP!!
BUT MABE AT A LATER STAGE!!
DEFININATELY A ROLL CAGE, JUST FOR SAFETY SAKE.
YOU NEVER KNOW.

i've now seen this car in person, and all i can say is WOW!!!
wes is a youngster with a really good head on his shoulders, and this project will be one of the best sx projects in SA when its done.
the workmanship is outstanding, and the effort he has already put in is phenomenal. it might sound like i'm blowing hot air here, but you guys really need to see this in person.
also, vlade - this vehicle can never be a sil80. it can only be a silvia (as it started life as) or a OneVia. Westmeister's plan is to make it a OneVia (thats the front end from a 180sx, and the rear end from a silvia - hence the positioning of the respective parts of the nickname!).
i've also heard a little birdy chirping about a better engine conversion!!! thats going to make this SX one very very capable drifter. westmeister will be able to quickly advance through the ranks of the skilled drifters in gauteng!
