It wasn't understeer, the car turns in surprisingly well. I would think I was carrying a lot of speed into the corners and the tyres were reaching the limit of their grip. The tyre squeal was while driving through the apex of the corner.

There was no sliding, not even unintentional. At first Barend thought I was drifting when he saw the trail of smoke I was leaving behind, then he realised something was wrong

And that something would be... a hole straight through the number 4 piston

Stupid piston...

Hi there gents,

It looks like i've missed a good fun day again  , but unfortunately my car is still not back from the panel bulshiters  and i couldn't convince the wife i was gonna go to a Nissan track day with my company Toyta Yaris T1  ...

Nice writing there Toby and sorry to ear about your car, stuff like that is unfortunate but bound to happen, maybe your leaking injector caused the trouble, anyways shout if you need second hand parts (i've got my old blown block).

I really wanted to join you guys and have a good time talking SX lingo  .

Stupid piston...
leaking injector = less fuel into cylinder = lean = detonation (well thats what I think anyway) not to mention the fire hazard
what killed my first engine was leaking injectors.

Not stupid piston but maybe
Stupid leaking injector
Stupid too much boost
Stupid tired fuel pump
Stupidly not tuned properly
Stupid wrong spark plugs
I could go on
Definitely not a stupid piston

>Not stupid piston but maybe
>Stupid leaking injector

It leaks about 2 ml of fuel after about a week's driving, so no, I don't think so.

>Stupid too much boost

Standard boost, I don't think so.

>Stupid tired fuel pump

New high flow fuel pump tested to make sure the return line has fuel flowing even at full throttle.

>Stupidly not tuned properly

Possibly, it showed signs of over-fuelling though, not under-fuelling. Little puffs of black smoke on full throttle, but mostly no smoke, and exceptional fuel efficiency (550-650km to a tank)

>Stupid wrong spark plugs

Standard NGK spark plugs

>I could go on
>Definitely not a stupid piston

Maybe not, I didn't mean to say that it's definitely the piston, but it would be on my suspect list as it's an unknown make and was custom made.

Wow wow....Time out guys...take a deep breath... and stop...Ok this things happens all the time even with the best tune/best injectors/Ross, Wiseco, JE, Titanium whatever pistons or parts you use or spark plugs it happened already to the best tuners in the world.

Now instead of hammering Toby with what my have caused the problem how about using the same energy and come with a solution to fix is car

Just my 50 rands on it..

Thanks Bruno, sorry if I came across as rude - I was just responding to the possible causes, wasn't trying to be rude :-) There's only one way to fix this, pull engine, rip it apart, and rebuild... again :(

On that note... Found new Pistons by Adams advice from Monday.

Engineers said they would redo engineering and refund pistons if
* There modified pistons material thickness was too thin
but in all other cases they will not do refund.
