I`ve been wanting to fit a TPS onto my T/b for a long time now.. Last night at 9 (!!!!!) I decide to start stripping the t/b off the Freddy manifold.

After a gesukkel and a bleeding knuckle I had it in my hands. The reason I had to take it off was that , firstly, the bloody shaft size is 9mm !! All the tps`s I have and can find are all made for an 8mm "d" shaft .
So it was out with the 6" file and after half an hour the tps fitted perfectly.
Except that now I had to make an adapter plate because the tps used does not bolt straight onto whats available on the t/b.
Now those of you that have worked with these things know that they are attached by means of a 4mm screw. I drilled and tapped the m4 hole and thread into the plate but had no 18mm long screws left. Oi !! An hour later I had milled the tps mounts down to accept the shorter screws that were available.

Bolted it all back together again but now had to contend with a radiator top hose not fitting because the tps was now slap bang in the way.

A Heath Robinson maak n plan later and we were all set to go. Left her overnight so that the gray sealer could set and got to bed at 2 am this morning. Dayumm !!

Oh, while it was out I discovered the throttle blade or butterfly valve was bent.
Now this could have been intentional by the manufacturers or it could have been caused by a moerse backfire.

I looked carefully at the shape and design if the inner section of the t/b and made the conclusion that it had probably been bent in a lean situation backfire at some stage.
I spent a good hour bending it all straight again and checking that I did not have excessive gaps or clearance when it was closed.
Also found a bloody big bolt gray siliconed into the t/b where the idle stepper motor should have been fitted. Unfortunately this "modification" is irreparable and it will need a new t/b for this feature to work again.
I simply resealed it all , trimmed down the bolt head on the lathe to make it look pretty and put it all back.

The t/b uses an adapter plate to fit the Freddy intake. The adapter plate is ally as well, but looks flame cut ! The holes don't line up, there are steps and gulleys and it is all just bad for airflow.
I cleaned all of this up as best I could, Ill probably machine a proper adapter plate later on for this all.Or I may simply mount one of my Alfa /Ferrari 90mm t/b later on.

This morning I bought a water pipe that I thought I could make work and fitted that as well.

I now have my tps mounted and raring to go but still need to wire it up this afternoon after the rain stops.

And for those of you wondering what the Freddy is like on the inside ?? Brilliant ! Flow is good and distribution is excellent to all the cylinders.
I don`t thing they could actually get it wrong seeing they copied the Jap`s original..

Oh, and I also think it`s time to take out the inter cooler and flush it ..lots of oil mist in all the pipes and stuff..I can only n imagine how ineffective the cooler is right now..

Driving the car this morning she felt totally different in the sense that real light throttle opening gave such good response.
When flooring her and the t/b fully open I got that real good power delivery when a throttle blade is just off fully open and it accelerates the air into the plenum.
I used to get this before when I only lifted my foot slightly and then you could feel the surge in power.
I believe the bent blade was now more aero in the incoming air stream..

Did`nt know that you could get more air in to a plenum with the throttle slightly off fully open now, did you ??
