Looking good bud, passenger side looks like it has more oil than the drivers side though. Need to get that balance right bud.

I wish I could get bits like this for mine. For now I will settle with the pop effect that I have ;)

Think it cost less than expected and more than wanted ;)

Soooo, it is official. I have hurt my motor. The weekend on our run to Swarties she was smoking some on decel.
Today at work she was missing on one cylinder , but cleared when driven under load. A new set of plugs in hand and tonight I change plugs after I got home.
First plug I take out is # 1 and it is all coked in gunge from oil in the cylinder.
All the rest are beautiful ! A nice light tan colour with a blackish surround. Perfect.
Do a quick comp and bang, my bubble is bust. 4 Bar cranking pressure in # 1 warm ! That is terminal.

Ill drive her like this for a while still until my new engine is ready to go in..sad really, she was a good engine.

I could not drive my car any longer, the cylinder was dead. Battled to start, poor drivability, no power etc.

The big engine is still not finished ! Starting to get gatvol there as well.

R7K later, I am fitting a NEO to my car . This hopefully, will be short term as I really did not want to go this route right now.
With the NEO I also need a new and better management system.(Hello Ian..) This is also on its way. At least I can use the management on the other motor as well.
While at it I had my old "Fatboy" box looked at. It was pretty fubarred ! Gear teeth worn half way through and stuff like that. Lo and behold, the gearbox oke pulls out a brand new "core" he had lying around for years ! Bought it many years ago and could not use it as it was not the same as the other boxes needing repair.
Turns out it was a Nissan fatboy !! So the box is also nice a new.
Swapping over the clutch on Friday we found the clutch pretty buggered. That put a hold on things but did allow me time to do the mods I always needed to do to the old engine but could,nt. These are now being done to the NEO.

The NEO comes from an automatic Stegia. This means it had the diff attached to the sump as well. I was adamant that I wanted to use the stock sump due to the design and all the std. baffles in it. It also has "wings" built in so it holds a bit more oil capacity.
Being an auto I believe the engine may be in better condition than if it were a manual. This is a bit iffy though but Im holding thumbs.

The drain back from the rear welsh plug to the sump. The bane of my life with the old engine.

Update here..

BIG thanks to Johan here for the R33 x member for my car. 8)

And to Ian-Rezlo for the RB25 mounts he sent up top me a while back.
The new engine is now resting on standard mounts as the factory intended ! No more "maak n plan" crap.
Everything fits perfectly and bolts right up and matched superbly ! The way it should be.

I can now for the first time say that the old engine had been damaged from the get go. Remember the overheating saga when we fetched it in Cape Town ?
Damage had been done.

The "new" NEO is just a revelation ! Not having had experience with the RB series engines I thought the lack luster performance was what it was. No way ! The NEO engine is just so good compared to the old engine here. Off boost drive ability is like day and night, I could not believe is was the same family engine !

The previous install had some one drilling a 5 or so mm hole in the throttle blade for idling purposes. I welded this shut today as she was buzzing at 3000 rpm with the blade closed.
That sorted the idling hassle. Now I can fit the idle stepper motor for true control.

The new box has also settled in nicely and so as the new clutch.

I also had to add quite a bit more fuel as the NEO really thrived on richer mixtures. My old setup which was good for the old engine was just way too lean for the new engine..

Then for good measure the fuel pump packed up this afternoon ! Oh well, time to fit the Walbro thats been hanging around for ages...

Ooooh ! and my rice tail lights also got fitted...lekka !
