3 plugs? I only know of two.
One for reverse and one for nuetral
Get a pic up when you can but if that hasn't worked then that's odd.

The next thing to try is to now bring the revs of the car up to 1500 out of gear and see if the noise goes away. VVT rattly would normally go away only if in gear when doing this.

Yeah it is.....maybe it only works with a lightly knocking VVT sprocket.
Did you test revving it up to 1500 rpm out of gear with this unplugged?
The rattle should still be there out of gear when you rev it up but when you unplug the nuetral position sensor it should act as if it's in gear and dissapear at 1500.

I am still convinced its the VVT sprocket, I will be able to confirm with the video if the sound is clear. Not much else sounds like the VVT sprocket.

Holy crap that is loud!!!! Sounds properly fooked!
But I couldnt hear much from in the car until the second time. Was this done with the nuetral position sensor unplugged? Because it seems that the car is still registering when it is in and out of gear.

Due to the fact that it dissapears when you put it in gear kind of confirms that it is the VVT rattle (did you leave the clutch depresssed when it is out of gear?). You will need to replace that and the VVT solanoid at the same time.

Another way to confirm its the vvt is to take a metal pole or screwdriver and put one side on the cam cover and put your ear on the other side, doing this amplifies the sound. Try it in different places and whereever it is loudest is where the issue is. But bet is that it will be loudest on the VVT sprocket buldge.
