No the layshaft is the shaft that changes gears in the box. You have the "input shaft" and the "output shaft" the layshaft connects the two.

Ummm it sounded like the noise was comming from just below the gear lever hey... nasty "cluck cluck cluck in rapid succession" at peak torque, like gears slipping over each other...

Mine sounded like the gears were grating eachother. Or like a seriously screwed wheel bearing.

Gary did your sound come from the back end of the gearbox, just about back of the gearshift almost where the propshaft coms in?

No mine sounded like it was coming from right under the gear lever. but then my front bearings were far worse than the rear.

Pull the box and open it up and have a look. I would personally take it back to the company that did the box. You payed R3500 and they did not fix the problem!!!

I did it through Riaan, he sent it somewhere, I will give them the car then they will check it.

JAAAA-HOOOO......! Iv'e got nothing for murphy.....my shit is sorted, o wait I do have something for murphy, before I explain let me explane something else....jou ma se ma se ma se sussie se.... ...

Apart from the cracling noise I heard I couldn't cgange gears in high revs, scratched into 2nd and jumped to 5th gear....that was fixed, so to rhe gearbox oaks sorry for dowting you....

The crackling noise was the arm that bolts to the body over the propshaft to stop it from falling out if it brakes somehow, this arm made by plate sits behind the rubber boot almost on top of the nuckel of the propshaft, the local propshaft oakie checked the propshaft then I took him for a drive, as soon as he heard it he said he is almost sure the propshaft is connecting with this arm when the car is at peak torque, went to the shop took it off went for a drive...,.sweet silence, went back ectended the arm rounding sothat it can still do the job it was suppose to but gives more space for the propshaft to moove.

Walla :D
