you wont increase the lag by increasing the lift???

if you just change lift and not duration - you will get more air into the engine at the same timing as before. this means you will get more bang (and thus more torque) without changing characteristics. if you increase the duration slightly you will get better breathing (specially at the top end).

a mild increase with a lot of lift is best for turbo cars.

N/A cars need long durations like 300 so that at the top end of the revs they can breath well enough to make power - but this is at a detriment to the lower end of the rev range because of the overlap. so overlap is not bad either. it all depends on what you want to achieve!

anyway - engineers will increase the lift of the cam by welding up the lobes with a specialised welding process, and then regrinding the lobe to the desired duration and lift!

ok, so how much lift can I go safely?

I've seen tomei cams with 256 and 8.8mm lift, so there is a viable option maybe.

8.1mm lift is max with stock lifters. 8.8mm is max with solid lifters.

8.1mm it is, 256deg. Does that sound ok? dont want to shift the powerband too high.

8.1mm and 256 sounds great, will make some nice power at 4500rpm and up.

Is this for just the intake or exhaust aswell??

both!

I think 265 might be too long for the exhaust. Get a set of cam gears, so you can tune them to exactly where you want, on a dyno obviously.

Already know of a set of cam gears to buy.

Great stuff. Just put it on a dyno before you put the cams and cam gears so we know how much power and Nm those cams and gears make.

Want to get everything on the car sorted, then get it on the dyno. wana c what difference the exhaust made, then do the cams.

thanx for all the input, thats why I love this forum! [smilie=200sx_200sx.gif]

Please read the exhaust "stock" lift height for a Ca18det on the below link
