STRIKE 3 XX0

Last chance... If a pro can't do it right, who can? I CAN...

D DATE = 27th October... 10 Days from today... Goal - bottom end rebuilt

Reason for rebuilt: Warn rings did a compression test warmed up 600kpa with a dash of oil 1000kpa this was on all cylinders with less than 5% difference, thats the reason for my mystery smoke gents.

Thanks Freddy for donating a set of Genuine Nissan 84mm rings, costs will be marginally small (my CC can handle it) at worst the following will need to be done
* Rebore block (got one spare block)
* Big End bearing set
* Small end bearing set - got spare set
* Few gaskets - Oil Cooler / Front + Rear crank seal, HG got a MLS one

Started stripping last night, engine coming out this weekend!

Tonight, I'll do the dirty work, drain water, oil cooler hoses, gearbox wires...

Last chance!

But if you rebore your piston wont be the correct size, that means new pistons!?

Do you know what cause the rings and bearings to go?? Werent you using ACL race bearings??

Glad to see you are attacking the project again, just think by the end of this you will better than Duane, since he couldnt get the motor right either.

nah I still have my old block than one is about 30 thou oversize and my pistons is 40 thou

Rings went because of a lack of attention from the tuner... motor was running extremely rich (I complained about the fuel usage a while back) it basically washed the cylinders, thus causing the rings to wear.

If I had a wideband meter this could have been avoided, but eish don't have that kind of cash lying around and vark sakes isn't that what my tuner is suppose to do...

Nah I couldn't use ACL's Race for the last build, they don't supply oversize bearings for the CA no more, only STD, I'll just use ACL Duraglide like the last time.

I have managed to find a generic wideband sensor that will plug straight into the wolf and give the same read outs as the LSM-11 but at 15% of the cost. I will get the part number, Bosch have stock in Dbn here for R560-00 or so, much cheaper than buying a wideband meter.

guess what the funny thing is.

this weekend i'm also pulling a ca18det out of an sx, because its tuner (your so-called Pro!???!) also "missed" a few things!!!

like the crank key eating away the main underdrive pulley's keyway, as well as the timing belt pulley's keyway, and everything else down there!

after the "tune" its 140rwkw's (apparently) lasted 3 days, and as for the rest of the work done - i personally consider it unacceptable. i wouldn't pay for that kind of work to be done, in all honesty!!!

luckily the owner now knows someone who is honest, doesn't make any outrageous claims to fame, and will admit when he cant do something so that it can be outsourced!

so i'll hold thumbs for you, if you keep murphy on your side of gauteng, and thus out of my garage!!!!

just a gentle reminder not to be too hasty vladimus, or to try putting squares into round holes (meaning rather match up the right spares, instead just using them cozof they're lying around or are cheap)

if its your last try, pleeeeeez do it slowly and properly. otherwise we all know whats gonna happen...
