So I`ve been rather gatvol of looking at this gauge directly in front of me where it was mounted on top of the steering column cover.
Could not see a third of the speedo nor a third of the rev counter.
I`ve been sitting in my car for hours trying to figure out a way of mounting additional gauges without ,
firstly,
destroying anything that is not destroyed yet,
secondly,
keeping it looking relatively oem ,
thirdly,
it must not be at the expense of any thing else-I want everything to still work and be there.
I looked at a dash top binnacle that I could make but it would always look like, well, like I made it as an after thought. Mmmm...I also did not want to cut the dash !
I am not a fan of the "a" post gauge mounts .
After another couple of hours sitting and looking this morning an idea struck me..
Move the heater control assy. down to where that useless little "can`t hold anything but crap" goody under the radio is and free up the slot where it was originally mounted.
After stripping it all I found the wiring would reach for the aircon/heater control box relocation .
and I found the constant source of the friggin oil smell inside the car. The fcukin oil gauge is leaking like a bastard !! Oil everywhere !
If you are going to fit an manual type gauge please remember to fit the tube inside the pipe under the ferrule !! Otherwise you simply colapse the ferrule and the pipe leaks !
After a few hours I now have a spot where I can now now build a custom gauge pod that will be extremely functional and very like the s15 had. Without messing up my dash !
Some one had already fcuked up most of the panels in the center console , cutting to fit radios, clips and brackets broken etc, etc.
I cut and shaped as best I could and fitted everything as best as it would all mount and bolt up..
Ill order new covers from the u.s.
Hopefully by next week Ill have a nice looking custom gauge setup in my car that is functional and also good looking.
