I wish I could come along to Phakisa with you but i worked it out; Its gonna cost just under R3K with fuel, entry, accomadation, tolls, food etc. And I think I need some new brake pads soon aswell...

Make sure to take lots of pics and video ;)

Phakisa feedback.

ok.. ive been to a few tracks around SA, but never raced on a Real Race track before, but there is no other way to explain this place other than Fukn-A. And im sorry/ no offence, but R-Hesketh has nil, zero nothing ...nada on Phakisa ( atleast for now, hopefully the changes underway currently to Hesketh, makes it something we as Durbanites can be proud off )

back to Phakisa.... proper run offs & bunkers in all the right places, awesome pits and facilitly's. the only thing i could say bad about it is the drive there from Durbs is crap, lots of road works and some of the straightest longest most boring roads. Took us 8hrs at 80 - 100kph.

Originally there was supposed to be about 30 cars going up... of which only 7 arrived. 3 x scoobys a golf, Penny's Z, and Spook in his Bmer and then our SX. So it was pretty quiet on track. the SX decided not to start, and i flooded it while trying to get it going, and nearly killed the battery.... and ive got to thank the guys especially the okie in the golf ( Never got his name :( ) for trying to get it running while i was running back and forth between the track and Welkom getting jumper leads, then spark plugs, petrol.. eventually we got it started at about 12 in the afternoon, after many stressfull calls to Gary, thanks Gary, seems the new plugs and and a jump start sorted everything.

i whent out on my drift/street tyres and got familiar with the track and started sliding around corners on my first lap :) , such an awesome track to drift on, but it was getting late so i thought i may as well use the semis i brought up atleast for one quick session to see how they feel & go. Wow, on the streets i was doing 2:09's while drifting and not really going for speed/time. But the semis are insane, i did a tyre warm up lap and came in, but my turbo had killed its actuator pipe and was making everything very hot, now the turbo was boosting up to 1.5bar!! so i had to drive it to about 55000 rpm and keep my foot on half accell to keep the boost to about where gary tuned it @ 0.7 bar, but the prob with this was that becuase my foot wasnt fully down i wasnt activating the W/M and the engine was still getting hot !. So i decided to take the bonnet off and carry on driving using my foot as a boost controller, then we ( Alex my G-friend with vid camera & i ) whent out again and did a warmup lap .. 2:05 and then a warmer lap - 2:02, then we started cleaning up lines on my third lap and i'd already shaved 1.6 seconds off the 2:02 previous lap time when on the third to last corner the car just ceased.. @ about 185kph while going through a sweeper corner, i honestly though id done something seriously bad to the motor as i was occasionally sneaking the boost up on the straights to an untuned 1.+ - bar :) .. we manged to keep momentum and freewheel the remainder of the course into the pits.. where the car started up fine ???!!!. we decided to call it a day. but im VERY sure the sx is good for a sub 2 min lap time with the boost tuned to a bar. To put it into perspective... there's a black top spec subaru that comes to hesketh with numerous trick bits, ..he was there... it did a 2:01 best time ... :)
normally i dont really get amped on being quicker than other cars, but its still a great benchmark car to post against.. i think.

I cant wait for the next Phakisa day, hopefully i can afford to go, im gonna start to save as soon as i can for it, believe me its worth it!

yhe, i missed the first couple of morning sessions on the track, apparently it was Very slippery, frost or something. But you have no idea how safe you feel on this track, the run offs and sheer space you have to play with gives you so much more confidence to play with. Apparently there is another Phakisa day coming up for the durban okes.. as soon as next month.. anyone keen, i cant go, it's too soon for my wallet :(

no not really, its a big track.. so we only have some from inside the car on my first couple of laps round the track, and then 2 of me spinning out :( and one lame one with not enough angle. but the track is large and i was having most of my slippery fun on the other end of the track.

i'll put some in any wayz..just now
