To rigid, would transmit vibrations through the chassis.

NOOOO, thanks, had solid mounts once, great if you drive the car for only 400m. Vibration is BAD.

Maybe some form of pneumatic cylider??

I've seen both Mazdas and Sentras with a top engine mount. The 1400 Pulsar had a nice cheap top mount between the head and the strut tower....

Ok I called Gabriel and they can make me up any shock I want. Juts got to give them the stroke and force. Now the stroke is easy but the force is the problem. How much will I need. I would think somewhere aroung 500N. The ones on the back door of a golf are 270N and that makes the door super light. This is not something that can be calculated only measured while at max torque and since I dont have a dyno I cant measure it.

How much torque do you want to push out?

It would make sense that the shock must be "pushing" the same amount that the engine is "pushing" on it. So I'd say that 500N would be a good bet and leave room for improvement.

These have no connection at all. Remember a large portion of the motors torque is transmitted through the drive train. Torque is measured in Nm and force in N. In order to compare these two we would need to know the distance from the center of the crank to the mounting of the damper.

No stress dude! You seem to be quite clued up, thanks for the info.

P.S. I'm sure the dampener will be about a meter from, the center of the crank, might be a bit of a thumb suck, but I'm sure 500N will be enough then!

Just a bit worried because if 500N is too much then it will act like a solid brace and transmit virations.

Here's a shot in the dark, can Gabriel make you an ajustable shock to any spec?

Good shot because Gabriel in JHB can. They will make you up a shock that is capable of 500N and add gas or remove it to get the required force rating. SO you can get a 500N one, if you find it is too stiff take it back any they will make softer. Gabriel in DBN however cannot, they say there isnt a demand.

hey knobs - i'm back and i see there is a shitload to read!!!

i was thinking that you should just go and buy the nismo engine mounts!!! i used to have an engine that moved hectically side to side under acc/dec, and so i bought new tight uprated mounts.

now i have an engine that just sits there and purrs sweetly!!! and does not move at all like it used to. was a very very good mod.

completely happy with those mounts - and i want a gearbox mount next!
