The disc inside the CA18 cas is located by a pin and cannot move at all.

If your cas is all the way to one side and the timing is wrong I would check the cam timing esp if the cam belt has been changed recently it is very easy to get the cam timing a tooth out on those motors.

thanks caver.

mine is around the middle of the sensor, but on the retarded side of the middle. and i'm not sure if its stuffed or not - but it would be nice to check. would probably be best to have the car dyno tuned - but i'm always sceptical.

thanks hennie for the advice. i will be checking mine soon.

thanks stupidshirt/windowmaker/whoeverthefuckuare for showing us all the pointless side of life!!!

Mine wasn't I checked it 3 times. Checked the marks counted the teeth etc. Splines was not worn, nothing. I just swapped it and it was perfect.

But if I remember correctly the "pin" is visible from the one side, think its from the bottom because mine was sticking out a bit. Anyone that has pics off a stripped CAS.

i decided that i didnt actually care if i fucked it, and i moved the cam timing gear to the middle!!!

it doesnt hiccup at all anymore, it doesnt feel as if it has heaps more power, but it feels like it pulls a little more!!!

i reckon its still retarded, although not as much as before its minor untardationnessism!!!!

Its been a while since I stripped one but the disc has 3 holes one for a locating pin and that is more so you cannot assmble the thing incorrectly. It has 2 holes on either side of that for screws so it is physically impossible for the disc to move once it is fitted.

Even if the pin is missing the screws will still prevent any movement.

Veecee get a timing light and check your base timing it should be 15 deg I have seen a few cases where the base timing needed to be 20deg or more to gte the car to run properly.

I find the best way to set the timing up is to load the car at about 2500 or 3000rpm on the dyno and power time it.
Otherwise use a quiet stretch of roiad and a stopwatch to find the optimum postion.

well there you have it gents...

vlade you resourceful bastard!!! no more arguments. thanks!!!

calibrator - originally i thought that i had set the base timing at about 15 degrees, and i thought that maybe i got the timing belt wrong.

but we checked that, and i am 100% sure the timing belt is set properly.

so then i looked at CAS again - and it cant be. but now i no longer have access to the timing light that i once used to use. until i get another, i'm useless!!!

but i honestly think the car needs to be dyno tuned. i dont think my mixtures are set right, i also am not sure of the fuel pressure at boost (although its about 2.5 bar at idle), we all know about the timing, it would be nice to know that i dont have a boost leak.

it would also be nice to know that i am not running with about 80rwkw like the dog that the car feels at the moment. maybe i'm just used to the power!

what is the stopwatch method?

I might be wrong but there isn't much one can "tune" these cars with... So I'm not sure what a Dyno Tune will help with... Other than setting the perfect timing.

I know you can adjust some mixtures with the MAF sensor but its very very little... Some other peopols at Rightway developments tried to "tune" my car, before I had the Wolf3D... Ended up being a waste of money.

that is what i am worried about!!! a waste of money, its been a concern for some time now, and thats why it hasnt been to a dyno.

but i'm getting fed up now - specially since i lost the use of a timing light because one friend told the owner of the light to "take a hike" *smiles at the use of such lame politically correct language*

i am specially worried about the mixture setting on the MAF.

as none of my brothers answered my calls for help in the 'chat' forum - (maybe coz the technical guys hang out here), so now i resort to hijacking:
anybody out there that can get technical diagrams or schematics or workshop manual kinda things for other cars?
calibrator? anybody?

pref digitally, like our sx manuals
or anything!

car in question is my pansywagon - renault scenic rx4 (4x4)
looking for cooling and electical pics
